Mary Ann Kelly
Mary Ann Kelly, 81, of Clear Lake City, Houston, Texas died Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
Mary Ann was born December 25, 1938 in Muscatine, Iowa to Harry and Anna (Bingeli) McNeal. She attended school in Muscatine, graduating from Muscatine High School in the class of 1956. After earning an associate degree from Muscatine Community College, she taught grade school until her marriage to William J. Kelly on June 10, 1961.
Mary Ann and Bill moved to Burlington, Iowa where they raised three children. While the children were young, Mary Ann worked at home as a seamstress, making seasonal wardrobes, wedding and other special occasion outfits to order. Once the children were in school, she went to work as an aide and librarian at Blackhawk Elementary School where she stayed until her retirement in 1997. In retirement, Mary Ann and Bill moved to Houston to be close to their grandchildren.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Betty Jean. She is survived by children Joe (Michelle) of Houston, Chris (Mark) of Saint Paul, Minnesota and Jim of Houston; and grandchildren Connor, Ryan, Caitlin, Anna, Parker and Griffin.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, a memorial service will be planned later in 2021. Mary Ann was a supporter of many worthy causes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Houston Food Bank, Doctors without Borders or ACLU.
What a wonderful person Mary Ann was: always so interesting to chat with and so very clearly proud of her children in particular. Hers was surely a life well lived …
Mary Ann was a kind and vivacious lady with intelligent and often humorous views on the world. She was proud of her children and grandchildren, often talking about their accomplishments and generosity. I enjoyed her company very much, she will be missed.
We are so very sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. She was not only a wonderful customer of ours for many many years, she was always so thoughtful and a joy to visit with on the phone and in person. She will be missed.

A good friend from our high school class – she seemed always to be smiling. We especially enjoyed visiting with Mary Ann and Jim at our 50th high school reunion. Our thoughts and prayers are for all the family.
She was one of the most enjoyable persons I have ever had the extreme pleasure of knowing.
I am deeply saddened to read about the passing of Mary Ann. She and I were friends and have a special connection, because we were both born December 25, 1938 in Muscatine, Iowa. She and I always spent much time each year to find a Happy Christmas Birthday card for each other. These cards are hard to find and we shared our frustration with each other. I sent a card to her this year, but didn’t receive one from her, which concerned me. The best high school reunion I attended was our 50th and others would agree with me. Mary Ann brought Jim, who gave a presentation about his life as an astronaut. I send my condolences and prayers for peace to Mary Ann’s family during this sad time.
Mary Ann was a childhood neighbor of my husband, Evert White. He also renewed his friendship with her at the 50th class reunion. She was such a sweet caring person and they shared many letters about health and families.

Mary Ann left an imprint on my heart. Her family was blessed with a wonderful lady. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year I taught 4th grade at Perkins Elem, she shared her 3 children with me. As a room mother, parent, and the dear friend she became. Her insight, warmth, guidance, gentle smile, sparkling eyes, and cheerful laugh helped guide me along. She was very wise and such a welcome visitor. Through the years we kept in contact, sharing the pride she gleamed of her children, grandchildren, and families. Her advice was always brilliant and brought welcomed updates. Mary Ann’s amazing energy and spirit for living will be truly missed. She made the world a better place. Our sincere condolences to her families for your loss.
