Jay “Tom” Thomas Rohwer

Jay “Tom” Thomas Rohwer, 84, a resident of Pearland, Texas for 19 years, passed away July 31, 2023. Tom was born April 10, 1939 in Marshalltown, Iowa.  In High School he participated in Gymnastics and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Tom graduated from Iowa State with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1963.  He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity following in his father’s footsteps.

Tom served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve for 6 years then worked for several architecture companies before enjoying a career with the Federal Government. He worked first for The National Guard Bureau and then the Texas Air National Guard. Tom received the Civilian Service Award and retired with a GS12 rank.  Tom was a member of the breakfast Lions Club in Fresno, California and served as secretary.  When his children were involved in competitive swimming, Tom became an AAU stroke and turn official.  After retirement, he became a member of the National Riffle Association and was a certified instructor.  He was a member of the PSC Shooting Club in Friendswood, Texas and was employed there as a Range Marshall.  Tom was a camera enthusiast and passed his creativity on to his daughter.  He also enjoyed woodworking, making everything from decks to clocks.  Tom’s absolute favorite thing to do was exploring the world on cruise ships with his love, Sharon Rohwer.

Tom leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Sharon Rohwer; daughter, Kristine Canterbury, husband Russell; son, Jeffrey Rohwer, wife Connie; step-son, Chad Keeton; grandchildren: Colby Canterbury, Chandler Canterbury, and Shelby Canterbury; step-grandchildren: Mitch Keeton, and Evan Keeton; identical twin brother, Robert Rohwer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius “Jay” and Isadore Rohwer; step-son, Brett Keeton; and sister-in-law, Anne Rohwer.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Tunnels to Towers Foundation in honor of Jay Thomas Rohwer. Tunnels to Towers Foundation provides housing for Veterans and First Responders and is an organization Tom was very passionate about.  https://t2t.org
