James William Jones

image1James William Jones succumbed to lung cancer at his home in League City surrounded by his family on October 28, 2016. He leaves behind his wife, Anita Jones; his daughter Kristi Pewthers; his son James Jones; his son-in-law John-Gardner Pewthers; his grandchildren, William and Gwyneth Pewthers; and his former wife Virginia Jones. His father James Meredith Jones, his mother Annie Lee Mayo, and his sister Ann Celeste Jones preceded him in death.

Jim was born on July 17, 1942, in Port Arthur, Texas. The family later moved to Houston where he graduated from Bellaire HS. Jim served 4 ½ years in the Navy after high school and was stationed in the Philippines for part of that time at the beginning of the Vietnam War. He began his career at Texas Instruments in 1969 as an electrical engineer. His work eventually brought him to Singapore where he met his wife Anita. They moved back to Texas in 1996 when Jim retired. His dream was to live by the water, and he spent the last twenty years living that dream.

A passionate woodworker and master craftsman, Jim had a workshop in his garage where he built many heirloom pieces for himself and his family. He was also mechanically inclined and was happiest when figuring out a new engineering project such as NASCAR certified racing Volkswagen Bug. He gutted an old beetle and rebuilt it from scratch ready for the raceway. But his talents didn’t stop there, he was a pit master, serving up the finest BBQ, brisket, and smoked meat around.

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday at 6:00 PM at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson. It is located on the corner of FM 517 and FM 646. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Interfaith Caring Ministries in the name of Jim Jones.

  1. He is remembered as a generous man who together with my aunt Anita, always welcomed me in his home when he was in Singapore. Providing a constant jovial countenance, it was always a pleasure to be around him.
The Christmas events always featured his awesome BBQ food, and also the laughter and joy in the family as we gathered often in his home. I miss those days.
You will be fondly remembered, uncle Jim.

  2. The tide recedes but leaves behind
    bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle
warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes
    on in sweet refrains…..
    For every joy that passes,
    something beautiful remains.

Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

    With prayers and blessings,

  7. I am sorry to learn of Jim’s passing. I will always remember him as one of the most loving husbands I have ever seen. It was a pleasure to watch him walk Anita to the car every night that she worked late. There was never a time that he let her walk by herself through the dark parking lot alone. It was clear by his actions how much he loved and adored Anita. He always had a warmth about him that made everyone feel comfortable, I can only imagine how good his cooking was. Jim was a true gift to many, especially Anita.

  11. Mr. Jones was a loving, caring a humble man that loved Miss Anita very much. A great cook that his wife constantly bragged about because he would have her meals already prepared when he came to pick her up from work. A man who will be truly missed by all. But, an angel Miss Anita and her children will always have for a lifetime.
