Hortencia Segura-Quintero

Hortencia Segura-Quintero, 70, a resident of Dickinson, Texas passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Nassau Bay, Texas.  She was born on March 25, 1949, in Corpus Christi to Jesus and Guadalupe Pena.

Hortencia came from a large family; with many brothers and sisters.  She attended Pleasanton High School, where she met and fell in love with Alexander Segura.  They married in 1967 and moved to Dickinson, Texas.  This is where they started their family and had three boys, Severiano, Richard and Alexander Jr.  On January 14, 1984, Hortencia was blessed with a daughter, whom she named Hortencia.

In 1999, Hortencia met Luis Quintero and they have been happily married ever since.

If you ask the any of the kids, they will tell you many stories of growing up with their mom up.  The boys will tell you that while Hortencia worked in the school cafeteria, she would sneak them extra steak fingers, mashed potatoes and milk from the cafeteria.  They all loved the square pizza and the cinnamon rolls that she would bring home every summer.  All the kids remember Hortencia cooking beans and tortillas on Saturday mornings.  The smell of fresh cooked tortillas would wake them from their sleep and they would secretly watch their mom dancing in the kitchen while breakfast finished cooking.  She always knew when the kids had woke up because they would sneak tortillas and leave the butter out.   Many would say the boys got their love of cooking from their mother.

Hortencia is survived by her sons Severiano and wife Yvonne, Richard and wife Katie, Alexander and wife Marisa, and daughter Hortencia and husband La’Don.  Hortencia has 14 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.
