Glennon S. Diket Sr.
Glennon S. Diket Sr. age 80, died quietly in his home, after a long and debilitating struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He is preceded in death by his wife Pamela Panvelle Diket, and parents Glennon and Madolin Diket of Algiers, Louisiana. He is survived by his son Glennon S. Diket II, his sister Gwendolyn Diket Hebert, nieces Toni Marie Breaux and husband Chris, Elizabeth H Melling, godsons Leo Moore III, Thaddeus Ray Erato and Paul Erato.
In his early life he first graduated elementary school at Holy Name of Mary Catholic School in Algiers, LA. From there he moved across the river to attend De La Salle High School from which he graduated in 1963. From there he would go on to attend then University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana, at Lafayette) where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and Agronomy.
In life he was many things; he worked many years in retail as part of Home Depot and then Ast. Manager of WoolCo. Upon reaching midlife he became a father in the fall of 83 at which point he transitioned to working as an Outside Sales Rep under Johnny Bales, before finally landing his job as a Grain Inspector for grain export with the USDA/FGIS/GPISA; a position he held until his retirement in December of 2014.
Glennon was always an avid gardener, even achieving the rank of Master Gardener from the Master Gardener’s Association of Galveston/Houston. Among his many friends in the association he became known as the “Tomato Man”. A title he took personal delight in.
Glennon was also an avid and active member of the Knights of Columbus; he has been a part of Council #1905 for Archbishop Blenk in Gretna, LA, Council #5544 for St. Jude, Church, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then lastly Council #10959 in Houston, TX. He was a member of the 4th Degree of each Council he was a member of. He was even briefly active on second and third degree teams alongside his son.
