David E. LeCompte, Jr.

David E. LeCompte, Jr. passed from this life on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. He was born on October 7, 1951 in Angleton, TX to David and Mary Frances LeCompte.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann (Allen) LeCompte, his daughters, Kimberly and Anne-Marie, his parents and his brother, John Lawrence LeCompte.

David is survived by his daughters, Aimee (Tony) Clements of Santa Fe, TX, Angela (Cyrus) Cochran of Edgar, WI, Bobbie (Sean) Leonard of Montgomery, TX, Brigid (Peter) McDonald of Chippewa Falls, WI, and Colleen (Caleb) Cochran of Williamsport, PA and his son, David I. LeCompte of TBD, TX. He was proud to be “PawPaw” to 34 grandchildren. He was the husband/father/grandfather that his family could count on.

David is the oldest of 16 children. They are a close-knit family, and he was a good example to them all. He is also survived by his brothers, Don (Marilyn) LeCompte, Richard (Elizabeth) LeCompte, Jody (Rita Jo) LeCompte, Dennis (Lynette) LeCompte, Tim (Ginger) LeCompte, Patrick (Kathy) LeCompte, and George LeCompte and his sisters, Rita McLawchlin, Imelda (Robert) Jez, Anne (Steve) Starr, Mary (David) Mackey, Paula (Michael) McDowell, Sarah (Warren) Stapleton, and Martha Lee, and a whole bunch of nieces and nephews.

David lived his life knowing death would one day come, and faithfully prepared his soul for it. At the heart of all that he did was the desire to show other people how to be closer to God and one day be with Him in Heaven. He did not work for the material things of this world, but to get to Heaven and save as many precious souls as he could.

David touched so many people’s lives in many different ways. He was a Catechism teacher at every parish where he belonged. He taught many altar servers to reverently assist at the Holy Mass.  He was out on the front lines fighting for the babies who are being murdered by abortion every day, even risking his life for them. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and active with the ACTS retreats. His thoughtfulness came out when he lovingly made cinnamon rolls for family and friends. The Catholic Church was what he loved because he loved God and wanted to spread the faith to others.

David was a rice farmer for all his married life. Along with all the hard physical labor that rice farming entails, he was also active in the Texas Farm Bureau to ensure that farmers had a voice. Politics was not his favorite thing, but he served many years as an election judge in Galveston County and worked to get morally good people elected. David enjoyed shrimping, fishing, and hunting. In his younger days, he was a pitcher in several softball leagues.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Shrine of the True Cross, Dickinson, TX, with the rosary beginning at 7pm. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Shrine of the True Cross. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Dickinson, TX. All services will be livestreamed on Shrine of the True Cross Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Good Counsel Homes, a home for unwed mothers (600 Meadowlands Parkway Suite 251, Secaucus, NJ 07094) or Shrine of the True Cross.

  4. LeCompte Family, you have Saints in Heaven, and David is the most recent. He reflected Christ in all he did. He was a wonderful man, and we were all blessed to have him in our lives. Barbara and David have been great role models for me, and their memory will continue that in my life. May he Rest In Peace with God, Barbara and all the family who preceded him. He will be missed by all of us waiting our turn.

  8. Our hearts are heavy with the news of David’s passing from this world into eternal life with Barbara and family members that have preceded him in death awaiting there to lead him into heaven. We can only imagine all the sweet babies that greeted him at the pearly gates to thank him for his prayers and efforts to preserve their lives. We thank God for David and Barbara and all that they did in support of respect for life from conception to natural death. They were the epitome of living the Christian values that God and the Church teaches, and we have all been fortunate enough to get swept up in the beautiful wake that they created as they moved through their lives. Our thoughts and prayers continue for David’s family as they grieve the loss of their sweet daddy. May his soul rest in the Peace of Christ Jesus. With love and deepest sympathy.

  9. I love that picture of David! The joy in his face makes me smile too. He was such a good-hearted, down to earth person who was always willing to help any one in any way. There are no words that can adequately convey the sadness in my heart for all of you children, grandkids, and siblings.

To you, he was a great “dad”, “PawPaw”, and “brother”. To Barbara, he was a loving spouse. To his mother, Mary, and to “Mother Mary” he was a wonderful son. Can you imagine how many cord Rosaries he must have made and distributed over the years! Or how many Rosaries he must have prayed either alone or with his family!

To me, and to many others he was a wonderful friend and mentor. He and Barbara were very involved in so many things and they always gave their all. If they did something, it was done well! I know, for sure, all the altar servers that David instructed are among the best – especially his grandsons!

Setting up abortion crosses with the LeCompte family, praying outside several
abortion clinics with them, flying to the “March for Life” with them, and praying out front at True Cross and at other locations with “Life Chain” were all things I probably would never have done had I not been inspired by David, Barbara, and their wonderful kids.

I remember I was always saying to my own children “the LeCompte family does such and such” hoping my own kids would want to follow in their footsteps. Finally my kids had to tell me “mom, we’re not the LeCompte family” and it was – sadly – true. The LeCompte family was a rare jewel and David and Barbara’s greatest accomplishment was raising six wonderful children who have not just kept the Faith but shared the Faith with their own children and others. I was so very blessed to have crossed paths with this wonderful family many years ago.

  18. I logged onto Facebook just this past weekend (I rarely go on FB anymore), and I saw that David LeCompte passed away last week, and that Barbara preceded him to their Eternal Life. I am both very shocked and very sad. Very good people. They devoted huge amounts of time, talent and treasure to the Shrine parish, and I believe, in a small but significant way, helped to usher in Texas’ new abortion restriction law last year. I am honored to have served with David in Lenten Good Friday Stations of the Cross with the Precious Relic of the True Cross, and in the Good Friday Passion liturgies and devotions. As I set up my Fontanini Holy Week displays in my home this Lenten season, I will remember them and pray for the repose of their Souls and for the comfort of their family and friends.

  19. We send our condolences on he passing of your Dad. He truly lived his faith to the fullest . He was a strong pillar of the Shrine and a great example to the rest of us of how to share our time, talent and treasure
He will truly be missed . I was heartbroken when Barbara passed and couldn’t imagine how hard it must have been for Davis without her at his side. They were always together and now they have both joined the communion of Saints
May he rest in peace and perpetual light shine upon him. The LeCompte family is in our prayers.
