David Moffatt

David Moffatt, 64, passed away on July 12, 2025, in Friendswood, Texas. He was born on October 10, 1960, in Houston to Rowland and Eleanor Moffatt. David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Laurie, daughter and son-in-law Kristen and Alex Schaaf, son and daughter-in-law Benjamin Moffatt and Luisa Gonzalez, sister and brother-in-law Karen and John Pace, brother and sister-in-law Bryan and Linda Moffatt, brother and sister-in-law Rowland and Carla Moffatt, granddaughter and grandson Kate and Evan Schaaf, and many other family members and friends.

David had many hobbies and passions, including gardening, sailing, windsurfing, running, kayaking, and taking care of the turtles and plants that lived in his beautiful backyard. He participated in the 1984 US Olympic windsurfing trials in Los Angeles and enjoyed sailing every Wednesday night with his friends on Clear Lake and Galveston Bay. He was part of the Bay Area Running Club and spent many Saturday mornings participating in races around Houston and supporting his fellow runners. In recent years, he enjoyed kayaking around Armand Bayou and Clear Creek with his friends. He had a large backyard garden where he grew tomatoes, peppers, vegetables and blackberries, which he loved to share with family, friends and neighbors. David raised three-toed box turtles and has a habitat for them in his backyard, better known as “Turtle Heaven”.

David retired from The Travelers Insurance Company in December of 2021, where he worked as an insurance claims manager for his entire 36-year career.

A memorial service will be held for David on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Crowder Funeral Home (111 E Medical Center Blvd, Webster, TX 77598) with an opportunity to visit with David’s family beginning at 1:00 pm. Because of David’s love of gardening, we encourage family and friends to visit his favorite nursery, Maas in Seabrook, or a nursery of their choice, to purchase a plant to care for and nurture in his honor.

  6. My deepest condolences to David’s wife and the Moffatt family for their loss. David and I worked together for many years, he was a patient teacher of our industry and taught me a great deal. We share a love of gardening and would chat a lot about what plants we were growing that year. David’s blackberries were legendary, the biggest & sweetest that I have ever tasted. Rest in Peace David, I will miss you old friend.

  7. I am so very saddened to hear of David’s passing. I worked with him at Travelers for nearly 20yrs and he was someone who always seemed to know the answer. Since his retirement his kind soul and sense of humor, not to mention his big cushy desk chair, have been missed. I cannot believe that he will not have more time to enjoy life away from here. My prayers to all whose lives will be less full because he is no longer in it.

  8. My sincere condolences to the Moffatt family. I just heard of this news today and am truly sad. I worked with David at Travelers Insurance for many years and he and I shared many laughs during that time. He was so kind, trustworthy, and knowledgeable and many in the office looked to him for expert guidance. I am thankful he got to enjoy a few years in retirement, but he has gone way too soon.

  13. My thoughts and prayers are with the Moffatt family. I worked with David for many years at Travelers. David was my Supervisor for many years and I could not have asked for a better person to report to. David was always very professional, but he was also very kind, caring funny and fair. We all enjoyed the produce, blackberries and left over wedding cake that he shared with us. I have many wonderful memories of working with him and I feel the world has suffered a great loss by losing him so soon. David was not only by boss, he was a great friend. Peace be with you my friend.

  14. Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of David. David and I worked together throughout his career with Travelers. He was always professional and kind. He was our go to person when it came to complex questions and would always have an answer. I enjoyed our talks whether it was work or about family. He loved his family and of course his “turtles”. We could not wait for his garden to harvest as he would share all of his produce with us. The blackberries had to be the best tasting berries I ever had. David was a wonderful co-worker and friend. I am honored to have worked with such an outstanding person. Rest in peace my friend.

  15. Laurie and family – Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of David. He was a truly special person—kind, thoughtful, funny, and effortlessly cool. I have so many fond memories of hanging out with him and the windsurfing gang. David had this incredible energy—equal parts fearless and joyful. Whether we were sailing smoothly across the water or wiping out in spectacular fashion, trying our best at tandem freestyle, it was always an adventure with him. His memory will remain in my heart always.

  16. I worked with David for 19 years at Travelers. One of the most sincere and down to earth person you would ever meet. He will be missed.

  17. David was a kind and generous man. We all loved the blackberries and tomatoes he often brought to the Seabrook trails where we indulged after the Sunday morning long run. I always enjoyed talking with David. Not too many months ago we had a great conversation about mentoring younger people and I found that we shared the same outlook and desire for the next generation. The only thing I regret is not getting to know David on a deeper level sooner.

David will be missed by many people.

May the good memories you all have of sustain you during these difficult days and may those good times you all had with him flood your mind when you need it most.

David made the world a better place and I am going to miss him.
