Marilyn Carol Tipton

Marilyn Carol [Brigham]Tipton, a member of the Greatest Generation, died at the age of 92 on September 2, 2020 in Pearland, Texas after an 8-year battle stemming of complications from Dementia.  She was born in Enid, Oklahoma to Harold and Jesse Brigham August 22, 1928 during the great depression.  She lost her father at the age of two.  Her family later moved to Oklahoma City where she attended and graduated from Central High School.  She earned a Batchelor of Science degree at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma graduating with honors, always on the Dean’s and/or President’s honor roll.  While attending the University of Oklahoma she met and married the one and only man in her life, James Daniel Tipton in 1948.  They were together for 71 plus years and raised two sons.

She was an extraordinarily gifted person with high values and lofty goals.  She was a devout Christian, baptized at an early age, loved her church and the Lord.  She volunteered at Southeast Memorial Hospital for 6 years helping in the newborn section.  She loved babies and loved working there.  She called them her newbies.  When retired she was honored with an awards dinner and was presented an award by the president of the hospital for her years of volunteer service.  For a six-year period she was a volunteer at the Adult Reading Center, Pearland chapter, that was recognized and praised by Barbara Bush, an enthusiastic champion of adult reading centers.  There, she utilized her degree in education teaching illiterates to read and write.  She was a passionate golfer playing at Golfcrest Country Club and tournament events at other clubs.  She was competitive, always playing by the rules and admonishing those who might have a tendency to bend the rules.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and son Steven Scott Tipton.

She is survived by her husband James, son Kevin and grandchildren Jonathan, Stephanie, Skye, and Kayla and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was a gracious and caring wife, mother and grandmother who loved and revered her family.  She is dearly missed by those of us who cherished her, but we are comforted, knowing she is with us in spirit, resting in her heavenly home.  She was a person of virtue, true to herself without pretense.  She lived her life with grace and dignity.

Our family thanks you for your outpouring of love and prayers during the late stressful months of her life and we acknowledge and thank the staff of Traditions Health Care, especially nurses Shelly and Carlos and nurse’s aide Erica for their amazing care and compassion for her.  We are forever endeared to her resident comfort caregivers, Yazmin, and Lisa for their tender loving compassionate care for her in the twilight of her life.  A gathering of immediate family members is planned for a later date to celebrate and memorialize her earthly life.

Memoral service at a later date.

  4. Mr. Tipton,
We were so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Tipton . Patrica and I was reflecting on the great memory, when we were all in Chicago and had dinner together. What a great evening that was , as Mrs. Tipton spent most of the evening bragging on you and all your well deserved accomplishments. She was an amazing person and no doubt your biggest supporter! I too have always admired you for the great man you are. I think through the past few years you have proven that you too are from the greatest generation, standing by Mrs. Tipton’s side , always supporting and caring for her, through better or worse. You have set an example of how all of us should live our lives. Always holding our love ones dear to us and love them unconditionally every day. I will not forget her and we will keep you lifted in prayer.
    May God Bless you always!
    Love,

  11. Jim,

Tara and I were saddened to hear of Marilyn’s passing. We will always remember her as sitting at Church being “dressed to the nines” wearing one of her wide variety of elegant hats. She was always willing to talk to us about life in general. She always had a story or two to share with whoever would listen. She was indeed one of God’s precious children and women, and she will be greatly missed by many.
