William “Bill” F. De Soto

William “Bill” F. De Soto, of League City, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2023 at his home surrounded by family in League City at the age of 83. He was born on September 2, 1940 in Pasto, Colombia to Cristobal and Maria Fernandez De Soto. Bill was a dedicated catholic, exceptional engineer, enthusiastic dancer, and lover of people and animals. He earned a bachelors of chemical engineering from Universidad de América in Bogota, Colombia and a masters degree in mechanical engineering from Brooklyn Collegiate and Polytechnic Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Bill traveled the world working in the petroleum industry for over 50 years. He spoke multiple languages, enjoyed experiencing different cultures and their unique traditions, and always seemed to make friends wherever he went. Bill had an insatiable sweet tooth, was musically talented, and could often be found on a golf course in his younger years. He is survived by his wife Sarah, seven children – William Jose, Cristobal, Patricia, Melissa, Chris, Will, and Angie, and fifteen grandchildren. His life will be celebrated with family and in accordance with Catholic tradition. Both the vigil and funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church this week. The Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 6:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7 o’clock at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1612 East Walker, League City, Texas 77573. A Mass will follow on Friday at 1:00pm with Father John Rooney presiding. He will be buried in the Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and to remember and honor Bill’s life of service, donations to St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church are welcomed.
