Walton Willie Lovercheck, Sr.
With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Walton on July 26, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 17, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, he lived a life defined not by the things he accomplished, but by the countless lives he touched. To know Walt was to know a quiet man of devout faith, steady strength, and a servant’s heart. He never sought recognition or praise; he simply loved God, loved his family, worked hard, and served others with humility and grace. Whether through a kind word, a helping hand, or his example, Walt made people feel welcome, valued, and loved.
Walt was the beloved son of Daniel Walton Lovercheck and Willie Olivia Pryor. He was preceded by his parents; his siblings, James Pittman and Wanda Mae Pittman, as well as his aunt’s and uncle’s James Eldon Lovercheck, Elizabeth Jane Lovercheck, Zorns Pryor, John F. Pryor, Fred Pryor, Edward Pryor, George Pryor, and his beloved grandson Kenneth Allen Mager. He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet, with whom he shared a loving marriage beginning on November 22, 1986. He was a loving father to Wendy Lovercheck and her husband, Michael; Walton Willie Lovercheck Jr. (affectionately known as Bubba); Dwayne P. Ryder and his wife, Misty; and Donna M. Ryder. He was a proud grandfather to Stephani Dwyer and her husband Patrick Dwyer, Bobby R. McCoy, Wesley D. McCoy, Erica Cameron, Tiffany Lovercheck, and Keira Elmore. His family continued to grow with the arrival of his beloved great- grandchildren, Ryder Jace Dwyer, Brynlee Mae Dwyer, and Kayden Nichole Cameron, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Sis Lee and her husband, Ronnie; Allen Lovercheck and his wife, Sandy; and Laverne Gurley and her husband, Richard.
A proud graduate of Luther Burbank Vocational High School, Class of 1967, Walt built a career that reflected his dedication and strong work ethic. From plumbing and Pipefitters Local Union 211 to the University of Houston- Clear Lake and later serving as Building and Facilities Manager at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, he approached every job with excellence. Even in retirement, he continued serving others working as a project manager for various roofing companies. Walt’s greatest passion was serving others. His community involvement included membership in the League City Lions Club and participation in the League City Police Department’s Citizens Policing Association. If there was a need, Walt was one of the first to step forward and volunteer, no matter the task. He also loved working with his hands. Whether building hand crafted cornhole boards, Adirondack chairs, or helping someone with a project, he found joy in creating things that brought happiness to others. His creations were a testament to his meticulous nature, and love for sharing his skills.
Perhaps what people will remember most about Walt is the joy he brought into every room. His playful sense of humor, infectious laugh, and ability to find light in everyday moments made people feel at ease and left them with memories they would always cherish. At his core, Walt was a man of unwavering faith who loved his Lord, cherished his family, and served others with humility. He was known for his generous heart, strong work ethic, and yes, a stubborn streak that those who loved him knew well. Once Walt made up his mind, there was little that could change it—but that same determination was the driving force behind his resilience, loyalty, and steadfast devotion to the people and values he held dear. His life was a testament to faith, compassion, perseverance, love, and the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire all who knew him.
There is a Celebration of Life in honor of Walt on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church. 1804 S Friendswood Drive, Friendswood TX 77546. It is Walt’s wishes that everyone wears shorts and a t-shirt to the service, not compulsory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to South Lake Church, Lead Pastor Memorial Fund, 240 West Galveston Street #2844, League City, Texas 77573 in honor of Walt’s legacy of faith and generosity.
Although our hearts are broken, we rejoice in a life well lived. Walt’s legacy of faith, love, laughter, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. We take comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of the Lord he faithfully served. Until we meet again, we will carry his love in our hearts and honor his memory by loving others as he did.

An exceptional man I got to know at Gloria Dei. He will be missed.
Walt was always very kind and also generous with his advice and wisdom when we operated the coffee shop at Gloria Dei. We enjoyed Walt’s sense of humor and he always had a smile for everyone. We’re very saddened by his passing but Walt is in God’s embrace. We pray for peace for his wife and family, both of which Walt talked about frequently with pride. Walt will be missed by all who knew him.
My big brother! Growing up with Walt was never easy being the youngest I was always picked on and had to learn to be strong willed to survive two older brothers. He and Allen were close when they were younger and grew even closer in the end. Walt had many strengths. He learned skills from my dad to build anything and went on to school to learn technical skills in high school. He could work on cars and fix them. He later got into IT skill. I remember asking an IT question and his first response was, “Did you read the instructions”. He wasn’t going to just give you the answer, you had to work for it. If he had to learn it, so did you. That is a great teacher. He was kind and giving. He later got into roofing and construction. He was hard working to the end. Even after the accident he would work in the garage every day, all day until one day he gathered the family and told us, “I have talked to my Lord and Savior and told him, Lord, I am tired, my body is tired and I am ready to come home”. It was very hard for all of us, but it was his decision and one we accepted. He will be truly missed. We love you, Walt!

What an amazing man. I am blessed to have known him. The BEST neighbor ever. He was such an inspiration. I even did a speech at my Toastmasters meeting on Walt and being such a inspiration. He was so talented. I loved his wit and his smile that came with it. He will be greatly missed. I know he is at peace and heaven gained another angel. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Our condolences to Janet, children, and grandchildren, while knowing that your husband, Father, and grandfather, was a man of strong, faith, much knowledge and great wisdom. We first met at the lutheran Church NB.
It was my pleasure to have known Walt, and blessed with his humor. We did numerous projects together, as well as service in Lions Club. His work ethics were strong and his friendship loyal.
