Teresa Sudela Christensen

TERESA SUDELA CHRISTENSEN, 96, passed from this life on June 13, 2025, at her home in League City, Texas at The Delaney at South Shore.

She was born in Galveston, Texas in 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Emily Holub Sudela. She and her husband, John L. moved to League City, Texas in 2001. Before moving to League City, they were both life-long residents of Galveston and members of Saint Patrick Catholic Church. It was at this church that she and John L. were baptized, confirmed, and later married, in 1950.

Teresa was a 1946 graduate of Dominican Catholic High School and a former employee of Bank of Galveston (now HomeTown Bank), retiring in 1992.

Preceding her in death, besides her parents, was her husband of 65 years, John L. Christensen, her brothers Joseph, Vincent and John Sudela, sisters Carmel Krovontka, Elizabeth Thelen, and Sister Marcella Sudela of the Dominican Community and her great great grandchild, Abigail Applegate. She leaves four sons and two daughters: John and wife Kristy of Huntsville, Philip and wife Diane of Texas City, Stephen and Jandee Alarid of League City, Paul and wife Raney of League City, Emily Christensen Jobe of Bellaire, and Nell Peterkin and husband Lawrence of Clear Lake City. Teresa is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Teresa’s children were the joy of her life. She loved participating in their many activities as they grew up. It was always a blessing to host family holiday celebrations. She and John L. enjoyed their various travels – both in the U.S. and abroad. They truly cherished their retirement and each other.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 10:30AM at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 1010 35th Street, Galveston, Texas followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 AM. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 2506 65th Street, Galveston, Texas.

Teresa’s children extend a heartfelt thanks to Magnolia Hospice for their recent care and especially to The Delaney at South Shore for the loving home provided to Mom during the last several years.

  2. Dear Christensen children,

We loved your mom and dad. They were so close to the Ringer’s. They are together again and my dad John will welcome Teresa, just as John L welcomed my dad. She lived a wonderful, full life. Always had her hair done and dressed so sophisticated. I will pray for all of you. May Teresa rest in peace in Jesus’ arms.

  7. When I was a baby living in the house next door you were a beautiful young bride and the wife of a Texas Aggie. I like to think I followed in your foot steps. But I never had your glowing platinum curls. Daddy always talked about you and the fun you had as teenagers.
You made raising 6 kids and working full time, entertaining and keeping a 2 story home near the beach easy. It isn’t.
The welcoming Committee above will be crowded but everyone will be so happy to see you especially my Mom Virginia and Daddy Vince. Little Jimmie will be there too, Frannie and Mary Ellen. We loved you so much.

  8. Dear Christensen’s and Sudela’s… Dear Cousins!
This is your cousin Michael (Aunt Elizabeth’s oldest adapted son) from among the five adopted Thelen boys.)
Please accept my, and all, our deepest condolences on the passing of your Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and Family Matriarch, Teresa.
News of her passing sent me, into a swirl of emotional memories, back to the 1950’s and 1960’s. Memories of being graciously and generously adopted, with my four younger brothers, into the Sudela clan, following the marriage of our widowed father Art Thelen to Elizabeth Sudela.
What a wonderful, caring family you all were (and are) to have opened your arms and your lives to include these rag tag boys in the events of your lives going forward! Your mom, my Aunt Teresa, was a kind and loving part of that welcome.
Blessings be upon her and all the Sudela clan women and men! May the Divine embrace her, and you all, in Its loving embrace!
    Peace and love,
    Michael
