Susan Marie Rougraff

Susan Marie Rougraff, 73, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and faithful servant of God, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by her loving children. Born on March 30, 1953, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was the eldest child of Dr. Maurice Rougraff and Regina Di Leonardo Rougraff. Throughout her life, Susan exemplified her Catholic faith through prayer, compassion, service to others, and unwavering trust in God. She was a devoted member of St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, where she faithfully served through the hospitality ministry and touched the lives of many with her kindness, encouragement, and generous spirit.

Susan dedicated her life to caring for others both personally and professionally. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Cizik School of Nursing at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and spent her career serving patients in intensive care, home health, and as a Certified Diabetes Educator, a role she found especially meaningful. She was known for her warm smile, compassionate heart, attentive listening, and thoughtful advice. Family and friends found in her a source of comfort, wisdom, and steadfast support.

Susan found great joy in cheering on Houston sports teams, especially the Astros and Texans, traveling, gathering with loved ones, and watching her grandchildren participate in their many activities. Above all, she cherished her faith and her family, finding her greatest blessings in the relationships she nurtured and the lives she touched.

Preceded in death by her loving parents Dr. Maurice Rougraff and Regina Di Leonardo Rougraff, also her beloved husband John Arnold.

She was survived by her son, Kenneth Starks of San Antonio, Texas, and her daughter, Christine Starks of Houston, Texas; her sisters, Barbara Pickett of Foster City, California, and Margaret Paterson of Hancock, New York; and her brothers, Joseph (Sue) Rougraff of Flower Mound, Texas, Dr. Bruce (Rebecca) Rougraff of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Dr. Paul (Barbara) Rougraff of Naples, Florida. She also left behind six cherished grandchildren, Eli, Noah, Emma, Jonah, Ezra, and Jace, as well as 15 beloved nieces and nephews.

Though her family grieved her passing, they found comfort in the promise of Christ’s resurrection and in the knowledge that Susan had been welcomed into the loving embrace of her Heavenly Father. Her legacy of faith, love, kindness, and service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know and love her.

Family and friends are invited to pray the Rosary at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 15500 El Camino Real, Houston, Texas 77062. Susan will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Susan’s memory may be made to the Glioblastoma Research Organization at www.gbmresearch.org. The family is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support shown during this difficult time.

May she rest in the peace of Christ, and may perpetual light shine upon her.
