Rose Anna Smith Hamon

Rose Anna Smith Hamon, 93, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at her home in Houston, Texas. She was born on January 15, 1924 in Petersburg, Indiana to Cecil F. and Lena Mae (Hopkins) Smith. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Noel Drew, Becky and Mike Roesler, and Jeri and Craig Callahan; sisters, Lena Mae Sharp and Marie King; grandchildren, Jonathan Drew, Paul (Robby) Drew, Kyle Hicks, Travis Roesler, Lucas Roesler, and Sarah Callahan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and family friends. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard, Earl, Cecil, and Robert Smith, and two sisters, Gladys Holt and Mary Smith.

During World War II, Rose worked as a riveter in an airplane factory in Detroit, Michigan, making her one of the many “Rosie the Riveters” of that era. She attended Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana, where she married a Church of God minister and started a family. They pastored several small congregations in Illinois and Texas, before moving to Pasadena, Texas and starting the Hamon Insurance Agency. Rose was a licensed insurance agent and a real estate broker for 18 years.

After retiring, Rose owned and managed numerous rental properties, and pursued her lifelong interests in oil painting and antique collecting. She became an accomplished artist and enjoyed being a grandmother, playing bridge with her friends, and attending various churches in the Pasadena-Houston area.

A memorial service to celebrate Rose Hamon’s life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Crowder Funeral Home, 111 E. Medical Center Blvd., Webster, TX 77598. The family will receive guests at 3pm and the service will begin at 3:30pm. Chaplain Les Fenter of Harbor Hospice will be officiating.

  4. Rose Hamon was one of my mom’s, (Hazel Rierson) best friends. They met at Southmore Church of God and remained friends until my mom passed away. Rose was always welcoming and I know she’s truly at home now. Bonnie, you are so much like her. Quiet, but always ready with a hug or sweet & comforting thing to say. I will always think of your family as my church family.

    God Bless All of You,
