Robert Coleman (R.C.) Green, Jr., of League City, Texas, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 94.

R.C. was born on April 20, 1931, in Callisburg, Cooke County, Texas, as the fourth child of Robert Coleman Green and Vivian Lorena Ayres Green.

Growing up as a farm boy in the Texas panhandle, R.C. earned the nickname “Tinker” which he was still called by his siblings throughout his lifetime. R.C. graduated from Gruver High School in Gruver, Texas, in 1948. He attended college at Abilene Christian College from 1948-1950 then transferred to complete a degree in finance at North Texas State University, graduating in 1952. It was there he met and fell in love with Betty Jane Harbison, the daughter of Homer and Lorena Curry Harbison. R.C. and Betty married on June 5, 1953, the day after her college graduation.

Tinker was drafted by the U.S. Army and served from 1953-54 in Korea as a mail clerk, arriving there the day before the armistice. When he returned, R.C. briefly worked for Humble Oil but was eventually hired by Citizens State Bank in Dickinson, Texas, where Betty was already employed. He and Betty bought a new home in Dickinson in 1956, where they had the first three of their four children: Robert Vincent Green, Barry Craig Green, and Beth Ann Green. In 1963, R.C. became the Cashier for the new Webster State Bank in Webster, Texas. In 1965, the Green family moved to Webster. R.C. and Betty’s fourth child, Amy Catherine Green, was born there.

R.C. left Webster State Bank for a position as Vice President in a bank in La Porte, Texas, a job that didn’t last more than two years because the senior officers were caught embezzling money. He returned to work for Citizens State Bank in Dickinson, staying there until retirement. R.C. was very proud of his career in banking because it consistently gave him the opportunity to help people to purchase things that improved their quality of life for themselves and their families.

In 1989 R.C. and Betty moved to a larger home in League City to have more room since Betty’s mother was living with them. They patiently and lovingly cared for her, including taking her on many trips, until she had to be moved to a nursing home and eventually passed away. After retirement, R.C. and Betty were thrilled to have the privilege to care for their granddaughters during the day and after school, which was beneficial to both them and Mikayla and Miranda.

Eventually, Betty’s mental faculties started to decline, presenting R.C. with many challenges regarding her care. However, as a dedicated husband, he cared for her until he was no longer physically able. In 2015, Betty passed away. Despite the loss of his wife, R.C. stayed strong and involved himself even more in the lives of friends and family. When Hurricane Harvey hit in 2017, R.C. was rescued from his house, which was rapidly filling with water. Despite losing his home and most of its contents, R.C. positively embraced moving into Regal Estates Assisted Living of League City, where he lived independently for the remainder of his life. In the wake of his trauma, he never once wavered in showing support and love to his friends and family. Although his age began hampering his abilities for actively participating in activities, he still tried to stay involved in any way he could.

Of greatest importance to R.C. was his family and his Christian faith. R.C. and Betty, and the Green children attended League City Church of Christ from the early ‘60s on. He wanted to ensure that his children developed a lifelong Christian faith. R.C. served the congregation first as a deacon and then as elder for 38 years. Again, this role enabled him to care for and help people in their spiritual walk as well as in times of distress or need. For many years, he also managed the church’s finances. A highlight for R.C. were the mission trips he participated in going to Mexico, 3-4 trips to Dominica, and 2 trips to Belarus, of which most were done after he retired. The other passion of his life was being a grandfather. He spent a many years loving, supporting, and taking
care of his grandkids in any way he could.

R.C. was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jane Harbison Green, his parents Robert Coleman and Vivian Green, Betty’s parents Homer and Lorena Harbison; siblings Adeline Green Wheeler, Weldon (Felix) Green, Virginia Green Alley, and Glenda Green Renner. He is survived by his brother Bo Green and his wife Becky (Be) Green; son Robert Green and his wife Jo Ellen Green of Abilene, TX; son Barry Green and his wife Lucy Green of League City, TX; daughter Beth Green Boyd of Plano, TX; and daughter Amy Green Hixson and son-in-law Ralph Hixson of Webster, TX.; grandchildren Caleb Cuccaro-Green and wife Julia Cuccaro-Green, Nathaniel Green and wife Sarah Hughes Green, Jessica Boyd Brown and husband Dan Brown, and Emily Boyd Bennett and husband Chris Bennett, and Brenna Boyd Schweser and husband Joey Schweser, Christina Riggins and husband Zayne Riggins, Katya Green, Mikayla Hixson, and Miranda Hixson; great grandchildren Caden, Delaney, and Silas Brown; Leon, Milo, and Nena Bennett; Alesi and Sohalia Cuccaro-Green; Rhea Green; Milana Riggins; and Otto Schweser.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 2nd at the League City Church of Christ, 1801 E. Main Street, League City, TX 77573 with a meal provided for family and friends immediately following the service.

A private interment took place at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.
