Robert “Bob” H. Thornton

Robert “Bob” H. Thornton passed away peacefully on January 2, 2018 at home in Sugar Land, TX, with Ginger at his side. Bob leaves behind his wife, Ginger Dawson Thornton; son, Don Thornton and daughter Gayle Kirkpatrick; step-daughter Lauren Rocha; and grand kids, Nickolas Thornton, Anthony David Rocha-Molina, Gianna Rocha-Ramirez, Savanna Giselle Rocha-Ramirez; and goddaughter Melissa “Boot” McLean. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Elizabeth Thornton.

Bob spent many years traveling the highways and country roads that crisscross America as a highly skilled right-of-way agent and manager. Over the years, Bob’s knowledge of right-of-way, oil & gas, real estate and construction landed him in management positions for Metropolitan Transit Authority, Coates Field Services and others. He loved being a right-of-way agent because he met all kinds of people from farmers and ranchers to major land owners. He said it was the best job ever.

Bob was born in Charleston, South Carolina on November 24, 1941. He was raised in North Little Rock, Arkansas, attended North Little Rock Arkansas High School and graduated from Arkansas Teachers College. Bob lived most of his adult life in the Houston area where he met Ginger and the Dawson Family; Bill & Rosie, Jane & Chris and Jim. He was Uncle Bob to Charlotte, Doug, Kelley and Tracey and their beautiful kids. Ginger’s best friends, Amy and Judy, never let Bob forget he was the luckiest man alive to have Ginger at his side.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 Broadway, Pearland, TX 77581. Bob’s memorial service will begin at 2:00 and a reception will follow. There will be no grave site service. Honorary pallbearers include Jim McLean, Bill Dawson, Jim Dawson, Patrick Mountain, Jim Blucker, Jimmy Hicks, Kurt Bohren, Chad Roch and Diego L. Ramirez. With gratitude, the family thanks Emma Ginns & Gwen, who lovingly cared for Bob during his most difficult times to the very end. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.

Ecclesiastes 3.1-2

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.

I was so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing and wanted you to know my thoughts are with you today. I enjoyed my time working for and with Bob, He could always see the humor in many of the difficult tasks and projects He undertook! I hope you are well and send you my best.

  2. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. The Bible holds out a wonderful hope
For all those who fall asleep in death. Acts 24:15 helps us to appreciate the resurection hope we all have and that one day we will see our loved ones again. My heart goes out to you and I hope you can find comfort by means of Gods written word. 2Cor.1:3
