Mrs. Frances Platenka Rogers

Mrs. Frances Platenka Rogers, age 93, of League City, passed away Thursday evening, February 20, 2020, at Methodist Clear Lake Hospital. She lived independently until age of 92, in recently been under care at Senior Village Care homes.

She was born February 3, 1927, in New York City, a daughter of the late Frank Platenka and Mary Platenka.

Frances and her sister Lillian Platenka were young when Frank and Mary passed away. They were raised by the late George Gilbert and Mary Jane Gilbert in Connecticut. She played the piano and organ as a small girl under the tutelage of her guardian who was an episcopal minister. Into adulthood she entertained many with her musical talents, and even in her older years went with Eucharistic ministers to the nursing homes and to the delight of the shut in residents played hymns for the Sunday services there.

She was married to Kenneth Rogers, who had served in the United States Navy. With her husband and daughter Janice Lyn, who pre-deceased her, traveled and lived abroad for several years before settling in League City. Frances worked for Mellon Bank & Mortgage in Houston then retired. She then worked at Dr. Henson’s Chiropractor as an office manager. She was wonderfully devoted to her family, faith, and closely connected to her neighbors who helped her stay independent in her late years. She was also very active in St. Christopher Episcopal Church for 30 years serving on many committees and dedicating her time to the success and services offered to the poor by the St. Christopher Thrift Shop which is still thriving today.

Frances is survived by two granddaughters Kelli Chillson of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Lesley Chillson of Houston, TX. She was a loving grandmother and provided many wonderful memories. She leaves many friends and other extended family members who will sadly miss her.

Frances’s final wishes will be honored at a ceremony of dedication where her ashes will be inurned in the Columbarium at St Christopher Episcopal Church in League City. The Columbarium is currently under construction and will be dedicated May 3, 2020. Frances’ service will be on a date following the dedication. This website will be updated in early May with the date and time of the service.
