John Harvey Winn

John Harvey Winn passed away peacefully on May 26, 2018 of congestive heart failure. Born November 12, 1931 in Jamestown, North Dakota, Jack’s parents soon returned home to Louisiana, where he grew up in Crowley. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Fred Charles Winn and mother, Miriam Sandoz Winn. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Loretta Hall Winn of Friendswood TX, daughter Dara Rychcik and husband Kevin of League City TX, grandson Benjamin Robert Watt of Los Angeles CA and 7 nieces and nephews in south Louisiana who loved their Uncle Jack.
Jack graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy in Pass Christian Mississippi and then served his country in the Navy on the USS Salisbury Sound during the Korean War. Jack returned home to finish his education at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and marry his “Laurie”. Hired out of LSU by Standard Oil of Indiana, Jack spent the next 31 years working as an auditor for Amoco Production Company and eventually BP. He retired from BP in 1989 as their Regional Audit Manager, overseeing much of US west coast, Orient and Australia BP interests.
Jack would spend the majority of his retirement years traveling with his wife around the world and later many more travels closer to home with his daughter and grandson in tow. Jack leaves behind a legacy of love and memories for his small “precious cargo” family, for whom he loved, provided and protected with all his heart. He will be missed for his dry sense of humor, big hugs, love of a good time, all things LSU and his love of New Orleans and Louisiana. A family gathering will be held upon reaching his final landing place with his parents at Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans at a later date. The family wishes prayers only, but if memorials are desired, donations to support research for a cure for Type 1 diabetes and Multiple Myeloma would be on the top of his list.
