John Allen Poffinbarger
John Allen Poffinbarger, 87, passed away on March 21, 2024, in Houston, Texas. He was born on August 11, 1936, in Houston, Texas to John Clay Poffinbarger and Vera Gertrude Raney Poffinbarger.
John is survived by his wife Shirley Rae Werner Poffinbarger; daughter Gay Lyn Poffinbarger Weigelt; grandchildren Dylan John Weigelt and Connor McKeen Weigelt; great grandchild Dawsyn John Weigelt; numerous family members and friends, and his “girls” Dana and Dena, John’s cats.
When his nation called, he answered by joining the United States Army. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Houston. John worked as an engineer, as flight simulation supervisor for NASA, Johnson Space Center. He had a passion for training the shuttle astronauts and loved to snow ski, water ski, follow the local sports teams and spend time with his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Clear Lake Methodist church, 16335 El Camino Real, Houston, Texas 77062.
In lieu of flowers those wishing to make a memorial donation in John’s memory may do so to CLUMC, the SPCA or the animal rescue of your choice.
