Jane Ann Quevedo

Jane Ann Quevedo, born January 10, 1945, in Beaumont, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, in Alvin, Texas. She was 81 years young. Jane Ann’s life beautifully reflected her love for God, her passion for music, and her dedication to guiding and inspiring her students. Her unwavering faith and commitment to sharing the joy of music touched her family, her community, and everyone blessed to learn from her.

Jane Ann graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont, Texas, in 1963, where she was an All-State Choir Member year after year. After high school, she went on to attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. It was at LSU where she met the love of her life, Enrique Mario Quevedo, P.E. Her studies continued at the University of Houston, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971.

Jane Ann began her distinguished career in music education in 1971, teaching choir in Pasadena ISD. Two years later, she accepted the role of choir director in Alvin ISD, where she led the program for a decade. She ultimately found her professional home in Friendswood ISD, serving as choir and musical director for 20 years and shaping the musical education of thousands of students.

Through her leadership and artistic vision, Jane Ann was instrumental in producing more than 20 musicals and countless concerts as vocal director—performances that consistently filled the Friendswood High School auditorium and left audiences in awe. Her unwavering dedication to mentoring young musicians left a lasting impression on generations of students who were inspired by her passion, discipline, and love for the arts. Even after stepping down as Musical Director, Jane Ann continued to serve Friendswood ISD by managing the daily online bulletin well into her seventies, a testament to her tireless work ethic and enduring devotion to the school she loved.

Jane Ann also found joy in singing with her church choir, where she shared her love of music with others as an expression of her faith. Her voice was not only a source of inspiration but also a reflection of her deep spiritual devotion.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband of over 55 years, Enrique Mario Quevedo; her father, Walter Lee Straughn; her mother, Mary Jane Straughn; her half-brother, Walter Lee Straughn Jr.; and her half-sister, Helen Harris. Their memories remained close to Jane’s heart throughout her life.

She is survived by a loving family who will cherish her memory: son Enrique Mario Quevedo II, MD; daughters Cristina Quevedo Singleton and Gina Victoria Quevedo; granddaughters Marisa Dawn Quevedo, DC; Danielle Victoria Quevedo, DDS; Margaret Rebeca Singleton; and Thomas James Singleton. Jane’s legacy lives on through them and all those whose lives she touched.

Jane Ann Quevedo will be lovingly remembered for the profound and lasting impact she made on the Friendswood community and on all who knew and cherished her. May her memory bring comfort and peace to those who mourn the loss of this remarkable woman.

  1. Sincere condolences to the family. I am so very sorry for your loss. May God provide the necessary peace and comfort to your family and friends during this difficult time. Please remember these words of encouragement from the Bible: “Jesus plainly told her: I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.” —John 11:20-25. (JW.org)

  2. Mrs. Quevedo came into FHS choir my sophomore or junior year. We could all tell right away her passion was music and teaching music compassionately. It’s been so many years since I graduated FHS. But my memories of my time in choir with Mrs Quevedo and our team have never exited my memory. She wouldn’t remember me at all but I’ll never forget Mrs. Quevedo. So many of us have been blessed by our Lord by giving us a short time to spend with her. And it was great. Thank you, Mrs. Quevedo, for your time with us.

  5. So sorry to hear of Jane Ann’s passing. She was a classmate in Jr Hi and HS. Although we never formally dated I went to my 1st dance with her in the 8th grade and have memories of several Friday nights spent in her families living room on Zavalla dancing to my 45 rpm records in Jr Hi. She was a very sweet girl. She had a grin that could light up a room.

  6. I’m so sad to hear of Mrs. Quevedo’s passing. She was a great teacher with a tremendous amount of patience and a great sense of humor. I loved her laugh. Singing was not a strength of mine, but she allowed me to be part of the choir and Campus Singers through running the sound board and doing tech. Prayers and condolences to the family.
