George Rivas
George Rivas, 53, a resident of Dickinson, Texas, passed from this life on February 22, 2026. He was born April 1, 1972, in Wichita, Kansas, to Gilberto Rivas and Maria Tufarelli Rivas.
A talented student-athlete, George graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1990. He went on to study engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he also played varsity football. Known for his sharp wit and unique worldview, George formed lasting bonds with those he met along the way; staying in touch with a ready joke, a fond memory, and a genuine interest in the lives of others.
After returning to the Houston area, George built a successful career in information technology, working with several Fortune 500 companies. He was also proud to have contributed to the launch of the iconic Hilton Americas-Houston in Downtown Houston. Following the death of his mother, George remained deeply dedicated to the care and companionship of his father, often traveling with him to stay connected with family in California, Mexico, and Italy.
George’s love of sports, especially soccer, stayed with him throughout his life. A gifted player, he remained active on the field for decades, sharing the game with lifelong friends as part of The Ducks club team and as a plank-owner and mainstay of the annual Clear Creek alumni soccer game. George was never more himself than when he was on the soccer pitch.
George was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Tufarelli Rivas. He is survived by those who will carry on his memory: his father, Gilberto Rivas; his daughter, Andrea Rene Rivas; his son, Gavino David Christopher Rivas; and his brother, Gavino Rivas.
In his honor, a visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home, 851 FM 517, Dickinson, Texas. A rosary will follow at 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the La India Bonita, 410 E. Main Street, League City, Texas, beginning at 4:00 p.m.

George was a good friend and a very intelligent and funny person. He will be dearly missed.
Though we never met IRL you had a huge impact on my life and I always considered you as a friend. RIP.
My heart is broken.
I’m heartbroken by the sudden loss of my lifelong friend. George was my Wondertwin — the kind of friend that can’t be replaced – and his absence will be deeply, deeply felt. More than anything, he was so proud of Dre and Gav. I hope they know how often he spoke about them with so much love. I watched them grow through his eyes.
You were there before, during, and after for so many moments in my life. Your sound advice changed direction for me countless times, and your sense of humor kept me afloat. You will be sorely missed, always remembered, and forever carried in my heart.

Thanks for the privilege of knowing you, Grivas. Say hi to my dad when you get there, please.
I will miss George. He was always kind, and a calm voice in every kind of storm. He knew I love Bishop’s Palace, always said he waved for me when he would pass by it. I cannot fathom the loss this must be to his family. He was a very good man, and a devoted father and son.
God bless his soul.

This world is a lesser place without you in it, grivas.
