Dorothy Marie Barrera

Dorothy Marie Barrera, was born on December 25, 1944 in Escondido, CA. Dorothy passed away peacefully in Pearland, TX on May 18, 2022 at the age of 77.

Dorothy retired from the University of Houston, after 20 years of service. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and enjoying the company of her many friends.

Her bright smile, contagious laugh and kind heart will be missed by so many. She truly left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her son, Robert Craig; parents Lloyd and Edith Chism; and sister, Shirley Lamoureaux.

She is survived by her loving husband, Cris Barrera; daughter, Shelly McDowell and husband Mark McDowell; son, Donald Craig and wife Paula Craig; step sons: John Barrera and Paul Barrera; step daughter, Ginger Higgins. Additionally, she is survived by her much beloved 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, (with one more on the way)

The family would like to thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2022 followed by a service at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, TX. Burial to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, TX.

  1. I first met Dorothy when our homes were being built some 20 years ago. Her and Cris had a party inviting new residents. Blessings abound when I met my future husband at that wonderful event. We have traveled with them to Costa Rica, Italy and Fredericksburg Texas to name a few. Dorothy will be missed.

    I just wanted to let you know that my thoughts are with you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss and I know she will be truly missed. I had the pleasure of working with Dorothy for 10 years at UH and she was always extremely kind and helpful. My thoughts and prayers to the family during this difficult time.
