Catherine (“Cathy”) Elizabeth Randleman

Catherine (“Cathy”) Elizabeth Randleman, 68 of Friendswood, TX passed away on April 18, 2023 at her home with her family by her side.  Cathy was born on June 06, 1954 in Beaumont, TX to James Harold and Francine Spivey and, until moving to Beaumont, TX, lived in Synder, TX for most of her youth.   She graduated from Beaumont High School in 1972 and went on to attend Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX.   While attending college, she met the love of her life, Philip Donahoe (III), a handsome aspiring engineer and tennis enthusiast.  Cathy and Philip married in August 1974 and were  richly blessed with their two children – Cari (1975) and Philip (1978).

After the tragic loss of her husband, Philip, in August 1985, she continued to live and raise Cari and Philip in the Pearland area and then the Clear Lake area where she later met Gary Randleman, a personality new to the south.  Perhaps because of Gary’s FIAT Spyder convertible that he drove at the time, others often referred to this couple as “Ken & Barbie.”   They were a “match” and married on January 27, 1989.

Throughout their time living in Clear Lake, then Austin, TX and returning to Friendswood, TX in 2001, Cathy was always drawn to giving of her time to things that mattered – Prayer, earnestly studying Scripture, leading Bible studies, sustaining life-long friendships, nurturing new friendships and influencing others toward an understanding and belief in Jesus.  One of her favorite authors, Henry Drummond, wrote: “Wherever we are, it is our friends that make our world.”  Cathy embraced the essence of that statement, as she lived her life knowing that Jesus is her friend and Savior.  Cathy was an active member of Faith Community Church in Bayou Vista, TX.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Gary, of 34 years; father, James Harold Spivey and his wife, Judy; mother, Francine Stepp; children: Cari Reed and her husband Michael, Philip Donahoe, IV and his wife Autumn, Timothy Randleman and his wife Jennifer, Richard Randleman and his wife Donna, Seth Randleman and his wife Cara and Elizabeth Dunnivan and her husband Mark; sisters: Mary Townsend, Cindy Lopez and her husband Joe, Boni Spivey and Leisel Rand and her husband Stephen; brothers: Michael Spivey and his wife Patti , Joe Spivey and his wife Kerryn, James Spivey and Derrick Spivey; grandchildren Caleb Reed, Caroline Reed, Jason Hatfield, Rhiannon Randleman, Nora Randleman, Isaac Randleman, Ethan Randleman and Camden Dunnivan.  Extended family includes many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with memorial service to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Crowder Funeral Home 2422 E. Broadway St. Pearland, TX 77581 with Pastor Byron Fulk officiating.

  3. Gary, Cari and Philip, we are so sorry for your and our earthly loss. We’ve been gone for almost 33 years, but we have still considered you and Cathy as best friends forever. We’ll be coming in right behind her and are looking forward to it. But for now, we are happy and much better for having been touched by Cathy.

  5. Cathy has a special place in my heart as I was privileged to spiritually shepherd her and her family as their pastor for many years. She was one of the most caring and Christ centered persons I have ever met. Through the ups and downs of life her faith was strong and now the strong arms of her heavenly Father have taken her home. Cari, Philip, Gary and other family members, you are in my prayers of comfort and hope as we await with great anticipation the day of resurrection. Peace to you all.

  7. I received a message through Facebook on Cathy’s death. I’m so sad. I lost touch with Cathy my Senior year in Snyder when I moved to Tulsa. I’d like to think I was one of her best friends. La Trix McMullan, Cathy and I were inseparable. We spent many a night at her house with her cool parents! What I would have given to have had a minute of her time now. I’m just so sorry. Praying for her family- this is a terrible loss!

  9. Cathy was our homecoming queen at Beaumont High School. She was one of the prettiest girls in our class, but she was really beautiful inside and out. It was so good to see her at our 50th reunion last fall — her return was a blessing to us all. This obituary is inspiring and comforting. Cathy’s faith in Christ and her focus on prayer, scripture, and leading Bible studies evidences a life well lived.
