Bobbye Jean Kitchener

Bobbye Jean Kitchener, 88, of Santa Fe Texas passed away on January 5, 2022. Born October 12, 1933 in Beverly, KY, Bobbye was the daughter of the late Robert Edward and Ida Mae Jackson Slusher. Bobbye grew up in Red Bird and was a graduate of the Red Bird Mission School and later attended Union College.

A longtime resident of Santa Fe Texas, this is where Bobbye raised her family.  She attended the First Baptist Church of Alta Loma for many years.  Bobbye began her career in training horses at a very young age. She spent the better part of six decades independently raising, training and showing Quarter horses to many great successes. She was also the organizational leader of the Indians 4H club in Galveston County, with her dear friend Bobby Yeamans for over forty years. She was also a highly sought-after instructor, mentor and friend to many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Kenneth Kitchener; siblings: Lucy Stevens, James Slusher, Arthur Slusher, Ernest Slusher, Albert Benjamin Slusher; and grandson: Zach Moulton.

Survivors include her sister: Daisy (Doll) Giles; children: Susie Moulton (Gary Meyer), Daniel Kitchener, Ida Kay Huebner, Anthony S Kitchener, Penny Blackmon (Barry Hessler), and Daisy Chenoweth
(Richard); grandchildren: Dawn Anders (Jason), Eddie Barnes (Monica), Ciara Moulton, Jake Bigford (Laurin), and Aaron, Bryce, Richard, Joshua, and Robert Chenoweth; great grandchildren: Skylar, Tyler, Logan, Nathan, Kaizley, Hollyn, Hope, Preston and Lilly. Her horse of twenty-four years, Docs Smokey Shadow and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 14, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Crowder Funeral home in Dickinson Texas.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church Alta Loma by Pastor Jake Bigford. Address is 5400 FM 646, Santa Fe, Texas 77510. There will be a graveside service immediately after at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock Texas.

  3. I remember when I was treasurer of the GCQHA calling “Bobbye Kitchener”, for an award in ever event It seems! She was such a great horse woman, and was so good at it, even up in her later years, when most her age are in a wheelchair (she was still on horseback!!!). Such a sweet inspiration, she will be missed by many! Prayers to the family! Until we meet again my friend✝️ ♥️🐴🌹

I have so so many fond memories the Bobby coming to our rescue at Lots of horse shows the one that Daisy forgot her boots and made me wear two different colored boots LOL it was such fun. But I remember her mama coming all the way to a horse show just to bring Daisy a piece of her equipment that she forgot and I remember thinking boy what a mom. You’ll be very very missed in many people’s lives and always be remembered. In mine various my deepest condolences to Daisy and Penny

  13. Mrs Kitchener touched the lives of so many people in her community. Countless children, including myself, had the opportunity to learn how to be better horsemen because her efforts. As kids we would often find ourselves horseback at the Kitcheners. She will be so terribly missed by all that knew her. I pray that all the good memories will ease this time of sorrow and tears and soften the pain of her loss. Big hugs!!

  14. I will regret not getting to spend more time with you Granny. I loved being able to come in to town and swing by your house for some of your amazing pancakes. Your home always had room for everyone and was never without the love you have for your family and your horses. Till I see you again, I love you, and you will be remembered and missed by so many.

    me the most hurtful news that her grandma had pass away.
    Bobbye you will always be remember and my heart. You had
    been the most wonderful and loving grandma to my daughter.
    I will always remember our horse shoe game with me and
    Penny and rest the family. Our last horseshoe game is me and
    Penny won the game. I will be up there one day so be ready
    to play horseshoes game with me.
