Ann McNeil O’Malley
Ann McNeil O’Malley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and servant of her community, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, on June 15, 2026, at the age of 86.
Ann was born on October 3, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Edward Henry McNeil and Esther Mary Wheeler. She carried throughout her life the values of generosity, kindness, and compassion that would become the hallmarks of her remarkable legacy.
A proud graduate of Temple University, Ann earned her degree in 1964 with the support of her first employer, Smith Kline French. That same year, she married the love of her life, Jim O’Malley, beginning a partnership that would span 62 devoted years. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and love.
After settling in upstate New York, where they raised their three children, Ann discovered a passion for volunteerism that would shape the rest of her life. As a docent at the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts, she introduced schoolchildren to art and cultures from around the world. Her enthusiasm for learning extended into her home, where she delighted her family with meals inspired by the cultures she was sharing with the community.
When the family moved to Houston in 1979, Ann’s commitment to service flourished. She became a docent at the Armand Bayou Nature Center and founded the docent program for the Bay Area Museum. Her leadership and dedication touched countless lives through her work with Bay Area Turning Point, where she served on the board and chaired the “Men and Women of Heart” gala for 11 years, helping raise more than $1 million to support survivors of domestic violence and assault.
Ann also served on the board of the National Kidney Foundation and as Vice President of the Board of Governors of the Arts Alliance of Clear Lake, always seeking ways to strengthen and enrich the lives of others. Whether advocating for those in need, supporting the arts, or educating future generations, she gave her time and talents generously and wholeheartedly.
Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. For 21 years, Ann shared her love of God as a Sunday school teacher, nurturing the faith of countless children. She also founded the SIS Program of 1,000 Rosaries at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, providing comfort, prayer, and hope to those facing difficult times.
Ann was deeply grateful for the lifelong friendships she enjoyed through the Recherche Birthday Club. For more than 45 years, the women of this close-knit group celebrated milestones, weathered challenges, and shared the joys and sorrows of life together. Their friendship brought Ann immeasurable happiness and companionship.
Above all else, Ann will be remembered for her extraordinary kindness and her boundless capacity to love. She had a gift for making people feel valued and welcomed. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Ann is survived by Jim, her loving husband of 62 years; her children Sharon and Brian Ainsworth of Dallas, Texas; Lisa and Jim O’Malley of Park City, Utah; Melissa O’Malley and John Lark of Park City, Utah; her six grandchildren; and her great-grandson, all of whom were the pride and joy of her life.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that the love she shared so freely will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
