Arlene Loray Hunt Bloodworth

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Arlene Loray Hunt Bloodworth, age 88, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Pearland, Texas.

Arlene was born on December 4, 1937, in Corpus Christi Texas to Opal and Frank Hunt. Known affectionately as “Sis” or “Sissy” to her family, she grew up in Corpus Christi and attended Christ the King Catholic School and W. B. Ray High School.

While growing up, her brother’s friend, William “Johnny” Bloodworth, would take her to the movies on Saturday afternoons, professing his undying love and insisting that one day he would marry her. Johnny left for the Army at age 17, but when he returned several years later, ring in hand, Arlene was already married with a young child and another on the way. Heartbroken, Johnny threw the ring into the Gulf of Mexico.

Life led them down separate paths as they each raised families of their own in different towns. Arlene often spoke of her childhood friend “Johnny Bloodworth” to her children. Their story reunited after the death of Arlene’s brother, Frank Richard “Dick” Hunt, in 1982. Johnny reached out to the family, and having heard the name for so many years, they knew that this meeting had to happen. From that moment forward, they were never apart again. Their enduring love story became one of devotion, second chances, and companionship.

Arlene will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Muriel Hunt Wilder; her daughters, Terri Veit of Houston, Texas, Sherry Morgan (Bobby Kelton) of Houston, Texas and Jamie Smith (Tim) of Jacksonville, Florida; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William “Johnny” Bloodworth of Corpus Christi; her daughter, Rhonda Oehlert of Wichita, Kansas; her brothers, Frank Hunt, Jr. and Ronald Douglas Hunt; and her parents.

A graveside ceremony will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, located at 9974 IH 37 Access Road, Corpus Christi, Texas, where Arlene’s ashes will be placed alongside those of her beloved husband. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend the brief ceremony and celebrate her life and legacy.
