Mable Ann Carlton

Mable Ann Carlton, lovingly known simply as Ann, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on November 19, 1941, in Alvin, Texas to Julius and Travis Vera Carlton. Ann was a spirited, feisty, and warm-hearted woman whose life was filled with love, laughter, and a deep devotion to her family and her faith.

Ann was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Julius and Travis Vera Carlton; her sister, Maurice Clifford, and brother-in-law, Charles Clifford; her brothers, James Travis “J.T.” Carlton and Vernon Carlton; her sister, Edwena Williams, and brother-in-law, Don Williams; her nephew, Thomas Jennings; and her very best friends Patt LaFrance, Joann Clifton, and Mike “Mikey” Kane.

She spent her early years in Hitchcock, Texas, where she graduated high school and made lifelong friends and memories. For the last 23 years, Ann resided in Alvin, Texas, with her loving daughter and son-in-law, where she remained an active and cherished part of her family’s life.

Ann is survived by her devoted daughter Cheri Linton and son-in-law Ted Linton, her beloved grandchildren Shealei Gibbs and husband Trey Gibbs, TJ Linton and wife Caitlyn Linton, and her adored great-grandchildren Hunter Linton, River Gibbs, Tripp Linton, and Graham Linton. Her sister-in-law Marilyn Carlton, niece Gwen Williams, nephew Michael Hengst and wife Cindy Hengst, and her lifelong best friends Sandy Sisson, Bobby Sarvis, Tutti and Sallye LaFrance, Jennie Odom, and Duwanna (Dee) Michael. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and other dear friends. Her family and friends were the center of her world, and she took immense pride in each generation she helped shape.

Known for her outgoing nature and joy in the company of others, Ann had a magnetic personality that drew people in. Her happiest days were spent surrounded by friends and family, enjoying good company and lively conversation. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and seen.

Ann’s entrepreneurial spirit shined in her proudest professional achievements owning and running R&E’s Lounge in La Marque and The Little Doggie in Texas City. These establishments were more than businesses; they were places filled with heart, community, and the unmistakable touch of Ann’s warmth and energy.

A God-loving woman through and through, Ann’s faith was an anchor in her life. She found strength, comfort, and guidance in the Word, and often read her Bible with devotion. Her love for God was evident in the way she lived with grace, generosity, and unwavering faith. A verse especially dear to her heart was Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” These words beautifully reflect the way Ann faced life with courage, joy, and an unshakable trust in the Lord.

Ann also had a playful and competitive streak she loved to play cards and was known for being particularly good at it. She knew when to hold’em and when to fold’em. Her favorite game was Texas Hold’em, and she never passed up the chance to try her luck at the casino. Her favorite slot machine was Top Dollar, and she had a knack for winning that made every trip a little more exciting.

Though she went by her middle name, her legacy will be remembered in full Mable Ann Carlton: a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her laughter, strength, feistiness, and boundless love will be missed more than words can say.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ann’s hospice caregivers, Anastasia De Hoyos, Late’ Titus, Natasha Williams and the entire team, for their compassionate care, kindness, and support during her final days. Your presence brought comfort and peace to Ann and her loved ones.

Per her request, no formal services will be held. While we understand how many lives she touched, she wished for a quiet farewell. The family deeply appreciates your kind thoughts, prayers, and support during this time. Please take a moment to remember her in your own way through a story, a smile, or a prayer.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her honor.

Arrangements are under the direction of James Crowder Funeral Home, La Marque.
