Judith Joan Wood

Judith Joan Wood passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on Sunday, July 21. She was born June 5, 1937, to Milton and Rose Brunk in Grand Forks, ND. When she was a young child, she moved with her parents and sister Cynthia to California where she met and eventually married the love of her life, Daniel Wood.
She raised a family of three in Mission Viejo, but moved to Dickinson, Texas, in 1979 when her husband was promoted to a vice president position at American National Insurance Company headquartered in Galveston, Texas.
She immersed herself in the Texas culture, making friends and volunteering in her community. Those that knew her, thought she was festive and quick witted. She loved to host parties with friends and family. After her first grandchild was born, she remarked “If I’d known how much fun it was to be a grandmother, I would have done that first!” She relished the role of grandmother and elevated it to an amazing level.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Karen Mack, and son Mike Wood; Son-in-law Ron Mack; Daughter-in-law Terry Thompson, Daughter-in-law Guillermina Wood, Daughter-in-law Debbie Wood and ex-daughter-in-law Carol Wood; by her grandchildren Rebekah Wood, John Wood, Nick Wood, Larissa Wood, Sarah Mack, Stephen Mack, Sierra Wood and West Wood; by her great grandchildren Julie Wood and Daniella Wood; by her sister Cynthia Freiberg and Brother-in-law Robert Freiberg and sister-in-law Betty Ann Wood (Dan’s sister) along with numerous other family members.
Judy is preceded in death by her husband Daniel Wood, son Jim Wood and grandchild Timmy Wood.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Judy in Southern California on New Year’s Day, January 1, at the beach, a place she loved so much.

  1. Mom,
Now you and dad are reunited, dancing and holding hands once again. Your love story will continue and Jim and Timmy are there to guide you to Dad. I know your wit and humor will light up the heavens.

  2. This is Cynthia Joanne Hurd Shereck from Grand Forks, ND. As you can see, I am named after the Brunk girls! I am so saddened to learn of your Mom’s passing. My Mom, Ruby Brunk Hurd, and Milton were raised together out on the farm in Emerado and Mom always called him her big brother. She loved Milton and Rosie very much. I expect they have already welcomed Judy to her new Home and all are enjoying a grand reunion. I’m a bit jealous, I must admit. Blessings to you all. Judy will be missed. ❤️

  3. I just got the sad news. I had communicated with Judy for years while she lived in Dickerson, TX. Since I live in Louisiana I had always hoped we would get together, but that never happened. Sorry I will miss the California gathering…at 80 years old, I don’t travel that much any more. Love to your whole family and I will be thinking of you all on New Years 2020. By, Sincerely, Vonnie Jenson Morse.
