Woodrow Abner

Woodrow Abner (1940-2026)

Woodrow “Woody” Abner, age 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 11,
2026 in League City, Texas. He was born on May 26, 1940 in Kentucky to parents James
Abner and Verna Felty.

Woody was always a real go-getter, starting work at a very young age selling newspapers
outside a florist shop in Cincinnati, Ohio. The florist shop later hired him and he would notice a pretty young lady walking by every day as she went to work. He had to find out who she was, and the rest is history. Woody and Peggy married, had two children, and moved to Texas where he became a successful businessman, founding and operating businesses in the marine industry in both Texas and Washington state. He built a reputation where his companies could be relied upon to tackle even the toughest of jobs.

Life wasn’t always about work, however. Woody was an avid golfer, with a side hobby of
collecting lost golf balls-boxes and boxes of them. He also loved spending summers in
Washington state and Oregon, where generations of family members would join in and
explore the beautiful countryside, beaches, mountains and waterfalls. His incredible work
ethic, willingness to sacrifice, and appreciation of the beauty in nature are just a few of the
legacies he leaves behind that his family will value and carry forward.

Woody is survived by his wife Peggy; daughter Sherri; son Richie; grandchildren Michael,
Amanda, Jade, Julia; great grandchildren Quest, Beau and numerous family members and
friends. He is preceded in death by parents James, Verna; sister Virgie; brothers Chester,
Pearl, Johnny, Melvin, Bill and Raleigh.

On Saturday, September 19, 2026, Woody’s family will greet guests from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm followed by a Memorial Service at 5:00 pm at Crowder Funeral Home, 111 E. Medical Center Blvd., Webster, TX 77598.
