Vernon Lee Donihoo, Sr.

Vernon Lee Donihoo, Sr., 80, of La Marque, Texas passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 13, 2021. Vernon was born to Carl and Mary Ruth Cadriel Donihoo on July 21, 1940 in Snyder, Texas.

Vernon grew up in Galveston, Texas and settled in La Marque, Texas after founding D & L Glass Company with his business partner Yvonne Lowe.  Vernon was married to Mary Howard Malm for 13 years and had two children, Carol Marie Donihoo Voight and Vernon Lee Donihoo, Jr.  Vernon was very competitive as an athlete, playing fast pitch softball for the Mainland Merchants in the 70’s, and spending most of his recreational time on the golf course, his favorite hobby.  Vernon loved family gatherings, playing dominoes and poker, and in his later years, enjoyed watching John Wayne and Star Trek movies.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Donihoo and Mary Ruth Cadriel Donihoo, his brother Jimmy Edward Donihoo, Sr., and his sister Gladys Marie Donihoo Flisowski.  Survivors include his brothers Elton Ray Donihoo of La Marque, Curtis Eugene Donihoo and wife Margaret of Texas City; brother in-law John Flisowski of Texas City; sister-in-law Margarite Gonzales Donihoo of Texas City; daughter Carol Donihoo Voight and husband Stanley of Texas City; son Vernon Lee Donihoo, Jr and wife Maralyn of La Marque; grandchildren, Meriah Voight of League City; Megan Voight Sellers and husband Jason of Honey Island, TX; Micah Voight of Dickinson; Marisa Voight of League City; Dillon Donihoo and girlfriend Alia McEwin of Texas City; and Alexis Donihoo and boyfriend Zander Stevens of Eureka, MT; step granddaughter Brittany Jenkins of La Marque; great-grandchildren, Aura Zirkle, Lilyan Voight, Harley Voight, Maybeth Sellers, Jessann Sellers, and Nixon Flores; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at James Crowder Funeral Home, La Marque, TX.  Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the funeral home with interment following at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery where Vernon will be laid to rest near his parents and siblings. His brother, Curtis Eugene Donihoo will officiate.
