Timothy “Tim” James Collins

Timothy “Tim” James Collins, of League City, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at his beloved family property in Timpson, Texas at the age of 67.

He was born on October 9, 1957 in Los Angeles, California to Kenneth and Clara Collins.

Tim was an avid sports fan who took his love for baseball from the high school fields of Bishop Montgomery High School to the collegiate level at Loyola Marymount University and then, ultimately, to the minor leagues playing for the California Angels Organization.  After he hung up his cleats and glove, he passed along his competitive spirit and love of sports to his children and coached them on the soccer fields and the baseball/softball diamonds.

Tim was never at a loss for words, always had a witty comeback ready for you, had a sense of humor like no other and had a catchy nickname for everyone he knew and loved.  He was the epitome of a true family man and loved with all his heart.  He met his wife in 7th grade and spent the rest of his life supporting her and creating a strong family unit that he loved fiercely and supported endlessly.  He and Karen set a great example for their children of what true love means, what it takes to make a marriage work and how precious family is.  His favorite times were when everyone was together enjoying the farm-life out in East Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Clara Collins.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karen, daughter Nicole Patin (Brandon) and sons Bryan Collins (Brandee), Jeff Collins (Julia), Andy Collins (Kelsey) and Steven Collins (Lauren), siblings Greg Collins (Lauri), Maureen Ibbetson (Paul), Dan Collins (Debbie) and Sheila Migliorini (Ernie). Tim (AKA “Pop PoP”) also leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Preston Collins, Landon Collins, Tyler Patin, Keaton Collins, Brynlee Collins, Bennett Collins and Brooks Collins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church located at 1612 E Walker Street, League City, Texas, 77573.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Tim’s honor to these two organizations, as they were very near and dear to his heart: American Diabetes Association ( http://www.donors.diabetes.org ) and St. Jude Children’s Hospital ( http://www.stjude.org ).

  4. I was devastated when news of Tim’s passing was shared with me by another member of the Bishop Montgomery High School 50-year Reunion. We, and all of the members of the BMHS Class of 75 were looking forward to seeing Tim at our 50-year Reunion next June. He was a star athlete with a competitive spirit, so it was a big surprise when he appeared on stage wearing a ballerina outfit for the Senior Class talent show. We will always remember Tim no matter what uniform he was wearing, and our hearts go out to his wife Karen (also our BMHS classmate) and their family.

  7. Karen and family, we are so sad to hear of Tim’s passing. You and Tim were the ultimate couple back in high school. It is such a heartwarming story that you kept that romance going. I remember the excitement I felt when I attended a San Jose Missions minor league game many years ago, only to see Tim in the lineup! We will keep you in our prayers…Dan and Felicia McClain

  11. Karen & family,
I was shocked to learn of Tim’s passing. I did not work directly with Tim, but for seven years, I was the Mrs. Claus at the Lockheed Martin Children’s Christmas Party, inwhich, Tim was Santa Claus. He was wonderful with the children, received their letters and responded to them, which, I’m sure delighted them. If the line was long, the little ones would come to me, asking me to tell Santa what they wanted. Working with Tim, in that capacity, was a great honor for me. Such a gentleman!!!
My heart, thoughts and prayers are with each of you!!!

  12. Karen & family:
Linda and I are deeply saddened at the news of your loss. I worked with Tim at LM for a number of years and was honored to consider him a friend as well as a colleague. All of his coworkers had a great affection for him and respected him for his leadership, incredible work ethic and professionalism. But most importantly his friendship, kindness and incredible sense of humor. He always added value and no matter how serious the problem needing a solution he could brighten the room with an East Texas quip which made everyone laugh. You may be familiar with one referencing a Steer and a flat rock which I always thought was hilarious. He loved his family and lived a life which enriched the lives all those he knew. I am confident he is again playing baseball with angels and making heaven a bit brighter and the locker room roar with laughter. You are in our thoughts and prayers and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to know Tim and the honor of his friendship. Tim’s example is blessing I appreciate. May God bless you and temper your sorrow until you are again in Tim’s loving embrace.
