Dennis Gene Jennings, 73, was called to his eternal home on August 2, 2026.

Dennis was born on August 26, 1952, in Crockett, Texas, to Jasper Eugene Jennings and Rosie Riddle Kleypas. He spent much of his life in Texas City, Texas, later making his home in Loveland, Colorado, before recently returning to Dickinson, Texas, to be closer to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dennis was a devoted husband to “the love of his life”and his wife of 18 years, Sharon Carreon Jennings.  He was a loving father to his children, Jennifer Leah Silberisen and Jason Laine Jennings. He was immensely proud of his family and especially adored his grandchildren, Clayton Blaine Jennings, Austin Paige Silberisen, and Hadleigh Faith Silberisen. One of his greatest joys was recently being “promoted” to great-grandfather with the arrival of Jasper David Jennings.

He is survived by his dear sisters, Thresa McClellen and Linda Jennings; son-in-law, Harold Silberisen III; and granddaughter-in-law, Della Jennings; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

A 1970 graduate of Texas City High School, Dennis began his career with Texas City Terminal Railway Company as a clerk. Through years of dedication and hard work, he worked his way up to Director of Railway Operations before retiring after a long and successful career.

There seemed to be very little Dennis couldn’t build, repair, create, or figure out. He was often jokingly referred to as a “jack of all trades, master of none,” although anyone who knew him would likely disagree with the latter. His intelligence, quick wit, and resourcefulness made him someone family and friends often relied upon when something needed to be done or when no one else could quite figure out how to do it.

Dennis had no shortage of interests, and when something captured his attention, he embraced it wholeheartedly. He built elaborate model train displays, some of which he donated to the Texas City Museum, an institution he also played a role in helping develop.

Hunting and fishing were lifelong passions. Dennis spent many years hunting with treasured friends Perry O’Brien and Tommy Toups among others, often at Paisano Ranch.  Their adventures took him from Mexico to Canada and beyond. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing his love of hunting and fishing with his son and grandson.

During his years in Colorado, Dennis loved the outdoors. Rocky Mountain National Park was a favorite place, where he and Sharon appreciated the beauty of the mountains and especially enjoyed watching the wildlife.

Dennis’s talents were as varied as his interests. He was gifted at gardening, quilting, painting, and writing poetry. He was also a talented, self-taught musician and guitarist. Whether working with his hands, creating something new, or simply pursuing his latest interest, Dennis was rarely without something that captured his curiosity.

Central to Dennis’s life was his Catholic faith. After becoming Catholic in his 30’s, his faith became a deeply meaningful part of who he was. He celebrated Mass regularly and served his church communities in countless ways throughout the years. Most recently, he shared his musical talent as a guitarist at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loveland. Dennis and Sharon also enjoyed attending Christian concerts with their dear friends Tony and Jean Walton.

Dennis’s faith was not simply something he practiced; it shaped the way he lived and the way he faced the end of his life. He trusted deeply in God’s plan for him and found comfort in knowing what awaited him. As his time grew near, Dennis was at peace and was ready to go home and be with Jesus.

Dennis was a kind and forgiving man who was slow to judge others. He rarely spoke ill of anyone and never felt the need to join in simply because others did. His intelligence was accompanied by a quick wit, and those who knew him appreciated both his sense of humor and his ability to make people feel at ease.

Dennis lived a full life—one marked by faith, family, friendship, hard work, curiosity, creativity, music, and adventure. He built things, fixed things, created things, traveled, hunted, fished, played music, wrote poetry, and never seemed to stop learning or finding something new to enjoy.

Of all the things Dennis accomplished throughout his 73 years, his family remained a tremendous source of pride. He was especially proud of his children and adored his grandchildren and great-grandson.

Dennis leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, lessons, creations, and memories, along with the comforting knowledge that a man of such strong faith left this world at peace, trusting in God’s plan and ready to be with Jesus.

In his honor a visitation will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 5:00-7:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm in the Crowder Funeral Home, Dickinson, Texas. A funeral mass will take place Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 10:30am at St Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, Texas City, Texas. Interment following at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Dickinson,  Texas.
