Thomas “Tom” Gibbons

Thomas “Tom” Gibbons, lovingly known to many as “Gris,” “Griswold,” and “Yank,” passed away on May 6, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on October 21, 1956, Tom was raised in Buffalo before making Texas his home at the age of 21.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose larger-than-life personality left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He dedicated 27 years of hard work and loyalty to UPS, where he built lifelong friendships and earned the respect of countless coworkers through his humor, work ethic, and dependable nature.

Above all else, Tom adored his wife of 43 years, Marla Gibbons. Together they built a life centered around family, laughter, and love. Tom never missed an opportunity to joke around, tell stories, or make those around him laugh. Whether it was hosting unforgettable pool parties, spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, or sitting around the table playing cards with family and friends, Tom had a way of making every moment memorable. He also had a special love for his dogs, Casey and Sarge, who were always close to his side.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gibbons; his mother, Mary Gibbons; his brothers, Robert Gibbons Jr. and Daniel Gibbons; and his daughter, Christi Spoth.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marla Gibbons; his daughter, Tonya Darr and her spouse, James Bower; his grandson, Thomas Darr, his children, Tannar, Christi, and Silas and his fiancée Shelby Wilson; his granddaughter, Madison Oliver and wife Jordan Oliver; his grandson, Zach Spoth and wife Taylor Spoth; his sisters, Gail Ryan and Patty Filbin; and Patty’s children, Kevin Filbin, Erin Filbin, and Steven Filbin and their families.

Tom also leaves behind extended family members Dave and Lisa Molina and their children, Gabby and Gavin, as well as Eric and Dana Phillips and their son Tyler, in addition to many cherished lifelong friends who became family over the years.

Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, endless jokes, deep loyalty, and the tremendous love he had for his family. His presence could light up a room, and his laughter was impossible to forget. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created with those he loved will live on forever.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 2:00pm at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque.
