Ralph Edward Lloyd
Ralph Edward Lloyd
May 28, 1932 – November 2, 2026
Ralph Edward Lloyd, 94, of League City, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Evelyn Lloyd of 69 years; his children, David (Lisa), Jeff (Allison), and Wendy (Tony); his grandchildren, Marissa (Ramy) and Rachel (Robert); three great-grandchildren; his younger brother, Joseph “Joey”; and extended family members Dede Mueck and Patsy Baumhardt.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, to Ralph and Catherine (Dougherty) Lloyd, Ralph grew up with his identical twin brother, Richard, his sister, Mary, and his younger brother, Joseph “Joey.” The twins were known for their mischief, sometimes even impersonating one another. Ralph, Richard, and their father bought a 28-foot cabin cruiser, the Gemini—a fitting name for twins who shared a birthday—and the family spent countless days on the water. He graduated from A.I. duPont High School in 1950.
Ralph’s strong work ethic showed early. He worked at the DuPont airport, in construction, and he eventually found his professional home at Amoco Chemicals, later BP. He spent 29 years as a Chemical Production Supervisor in Delaware and Texas, often working seven days a week. He lived by the belief that “you have to work hard to get and do what you want in life.”
In 1981, following an explosion at the chemical plant in Delaware, Ralph and Evelyn relocated to Texas, though they never really left Delaware behind, returning often to be with family.
After retiring, Ralph enjoyed 34 years of family, friends, and volunteering. He discovered a passion for painting, moving from pencil drawings to acrylics, signing his work “REL” and donating many pieces to church auctions. His love of aviation never faded; until very recently, he could be found at his computer flying his simulator, always eager to take one more flight.
Anyone who knew Ralph knew his humor was one of a kind: a razor-sharp wit, a quick comeback, and a signature Lloyd trait passed down through the generations. He might request a table “overlooking the ocean” at a decidedly less-than-fancy restaurant, and he gave out nicknames that stuck for a lifetime: Bratski (Marissa) and Wedge (Jeff). He was a sharp dresser, known for his memorable smile, and his thick, perfectly styled hair.
Beneath his sometimes-tough exterior was a tender heart. He was comfortable showing his emotions and never missed an opportunity to let his family know how much they meant to him. A devout Christian, he was a longtime member of St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church in Delaware and St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in League City, where he helped with landscaping and worked alongside Evelyn at the church thrift store.
Ralph leaves behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, creativity, faith, and jokes, and taught those around him never to take life—or themselves—too seriously.
A service celebrating Ralph’s life will be held on Saturday, November 21, at 12:30pm at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in League City, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church to support its parish needs.
