Robert “Jeff” Jeffrey Coppock

Robert “Jeff” Jeffrey Coppock, of League City, Tx passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026 in Houston, Texas at the age of 71. He was born on February 25, 1954 in Bay City, Texas to Robert Melvin and Pauline Huebner Coppock.

He was raised on the historic Huebner Bros cattle ranch where the first shape his life took was that of a cowboy, learning land, labor, and independence before carrying that same steadiness into service as a Matagorda County Sheriff’s Deputy. From there he turned toward the law first graduating from Southwest Texas State University and then earning his place at Baylor Law School and rising to Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. His brilliance of the law lead him into practice at Vinson & Elkins in Houston. Never one to remain confined to a single identity, he learned to fly and left the practice of law to become a pilot, flying first as the assistant Chief pilot for the Hickman-Wheeler Aero Club, then for the Pacific Island Airways and Kitty Hawk on the island of Saipan and finally for Northwest Airlines based in Honolulu. Following September 11, he immediately entered federal service as a Special Agent with the FAA, ultimately overseeing operations across the Pacific region and later the American South, the position from which he concluded his career.

He was a man who contained multitudes—both flaws and magnanimous virtues. He was a scholar, a scoundrel, a troubadour, a traveler and a great man. He loved life loudly and without apology: good drink, good cigars, high stakes, deep conversations, open sky and open water, and the company of people drawn to his gravity. He had a mind that ranged widely and a voice that rarely hesitated to follow it.

He was preceded in death by his mother Polly Coppock, his father Robert Melvin Coppock, his stepfather Andy Knight, and his granddaughter Ila Quinn Coppock.

He is survived by his son Nicholas Coppock; grandson Darwin Coppock; brother Mike (Debbie)Coppock; sister Susie Yanko; nephews Travis (Pam) Coppock and Taylor (Anna) Coppock and their children; as well as many friends spanning the globe.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main, League City, Texas 77573. The service will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend https://youtube.com/live/oAtVIDRKPIg. A second memorial gathering, including the spreading of ashes, will be held at his family ranch following the initial service.
