She had 4 children, earned a GED high school diploma, worked as a substitute teacher and as a pharmacy clerk at Acme Pharmacy. She left Georgia after her divorce in 1980.

She moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and worked as a clerk at Ochsner Hospital and attended the University of New Orleans. In the 1990’s she moved to Pascagoula, Mississippi and worked as a telemetry monitor tech at Singing River Hospital. She moved to Pearland, Texas in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina. She continued to work as a telemetry monitor tech at Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena and at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster. After she retired she worked at Affinity Home Health in Webster.
