Paula Stewart Tanner
Paula Stewart Tanner was born in League City, TX on September 17, 1950. She passed away peacefully January 13, 2025 at her home in League City.
Paula spent most of her life in League City. Her family were long time residents of the region (Lavace Stewart Elementary in Kemah and is named for Paula’s grandmother, who was a long-time principal.
The yellow building at the corner of Main and Park (currently occupied by ‘Pear and Pei’) is the house that Paula grew up in when it was at its original location on Texas Avenue.
Paula graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1969. She attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville and received a BA in education.
In 1977 Paula travelled to, Saudi Arabia to teach in the Saudi/ARAMCO schools for American expatriates. It was in Arabia that Paula met her future husband, Lausen Scott Tanner. The couple were married in 1980 and remained in Saudi Arabia working for several more years. Note: Scott had grown up in the ARAMCO communities and the couple have many friends from their years in Saudi Arabia.
Upon leaving Arabia in 1985, -Paula and Scott relocated to League City where they built a home. They travelled widely around the world and in the US during their years together always curious, always making new friends. In June 2025, Scott passed away after a long illness.
After returning to League City, Paula continued her teaching career at League City Elementary where she taught Third Grade for thirty years. Paula is fondly remembered by her colleagues and former students at LC Elementary.
Paula’s family in League City and around the country were always her highest priority. She was constantly attentive to the care of her parents. Paula and Scott’s home was a continuous family gathering place during all the many years they lived there together.
Paula is survived by her niece Delaina Robinson and Delaina’s daughter Shelby, son Tyler, and Shelby’s husband Trevor. Paula’s family and friends around the country will remember Paula for her easy manner, her wry sense of humor, her constancy in friendship, love of her family, and her dedication to her students,
