MURIEL ANNE HAYES
MURIEL ANNE HAYES
Anne Hayes, 81, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025. Services will be held at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church on July 18, 2025 at 10:00 am.
Anne was born on May 2, 1944 in Independence, Missouri to Jewel Allen and Lois M. (Shelley) Hayes, who preceded her in death. Her infant daughter and older sister, Carolyn (Hayes) Hubbard also preceded her in death.
Anne graduated with honors from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1961 and with distinction from the University of Missouri at Kansas City where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Anne was married to Ronnie Lee Seaton of Kansas City, Missouri from 1964 to 1991, and he preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Anne Seaton Hermes (Christopher Hermes) of Houston, Texas and Kristina Lee Seaton (Jessie Lutrick) of LaPorte, Texas, and her granddaughter, Laura Marie Hermes of Houston, Texas.
Anne was a dedicated Federal employee for nearly 37 years and earned many awards for her outstanding commitment to quality public service. The position she held for the five years prior to her retirement in 2003 was with the United States Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division as Assistant Director of the Kansas City District Office which covered Kansas and the western half of Missouri. Anne was conscientious, steadfast, and truly cared about the employees and community she served.
When Anne heard that her granddaughter Laura was about to be born in 2002, she packed her car and immediately drove from Kansas City to Houston, and she and Laura enjoyed many years together. Anne loved reading, music (especially Elvis), history, and spending time with family. She will be lovingly remembered as the smartest person in the room who could not be beaten at Scrabble or Jeopardy, a caring and wise listener, and a nurturing friend, mother, and Nana.
If you would like to support a charitable organization that would be dear to her heart, please consider the ACLU, Catholic Relief Services, or the American Red Cross.
Kim and Kristi and the rest of you that cared and loved her deeply,
My sincere condolences to all of you. Words can not express how her passing saddens me, but talking with her and just being around her was always something special. I can honestly say she was one of the nicest people I ever met and I met her 62 years ago…I guess that kind of says it all.
Your uncle, great uncle and friend,
Gary
