Michael “Mike” Terraso
Michael “Mike” Terraso passed away from this life on earth to go be with our Lord on June 18, 2020 at the age of 95. He was lifetime resident of Hitchcock/Bayou Vista.
Mike was a barber and owner of Cedar Barber Shop in La Marque for 54 years. He was a veteran WWII serving in the US Navy during the Pacific Campaign and participated in the invasion of Okinawa. He was a lifelong member of VFW 5400, Knight of Columbus, and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was the recipient of the Rotary Club’s Vocational Service Award. Mike was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge serving as Exalted Ruler in the La Marque lodge.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Dorothy Terraso. Also, his brothers and sisters and their spouses: Frances and Louis Delesandri, Annie and Victor Matranga, Andrew “Babe” and Ethel Terrasso, Pete and Mary Terrasso, Charlie Terrasso, and Nick Terrasso.
Mike is survived by his daughter and her family, Mikki, Steve, and Steven Mikael Streater; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Mike will be greatly missed by so many in the community and the family asks all to pray for his soul.

Mikki, I remember you and your parents living around the corner from us. I remember when you transferred to our school. You were so polite, raising your hand and standing when called on. Mikki, I have no idea how many haircuts Mike gave me through all of those years at Cedar but rest assured it was many. Every so often I pass through LaMarque and down Cedar Drive past the old shop and oh how I miss those haircuts. Mike always offered his thoughts on how my sports were going as a child and as I moved into an “adult” he continually tried to get me to join the Elks (which I never did) but it wasn’t for a lack of him trying. My dad, Jack Norman, knew your folks well and I always enjoyed listening to them talk about the “old days”. Mike Terraso was a fine man and I along with the world was made better because he was in it. Rest In Peace Mike.

My condolences, so sorry to hear this. Mike was a great man! He gave me my first job in the mid 80’s as a young kid at the barbershop, shining shoes, folding towels and sweeping up hair. You can only imagine the stories I heard between them all. Mike, Charlie and Carl were great to be around! I will cherish those memories and be forever grateful for the opportunity he gave me.
