Marie (Gunderson) Petersburg passed away on November 18, 2016 at the age of 79. She was the adopted daughter of Ole and Valborg Gunderson of Lake Mills, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and then taught second grade in nearby Humboldt County. She married Ronald Petersburg in 1958, moved to California and became a mother to one son, Kevin. Her family then moved to Dickinson, Texas, and later, resided in the Clear Lake City area.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Petersburg, his wife Karen, two grandchildren, Katelyn and Ryan, and two step-grandchildren, Leah and Jeffrey. She is also survived by her siblings, Betty, Fred, Bob, and David. Marie also leaves behind many family and friends that will treasure her memory.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Valborg Gunderson and recently, her husband Ronald Petersburg.

Marie loved art, painting and writing short stories and poetry. She was a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the Bay Area Writer’s League, in Houston, TX.

In keeping with her wishes, a small family gathering will be held and she will rest with her husband at the Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Marie requested that donations be made in her name to the Houston Food Bank in Houston, TX.
