Lois Lucille Henson

Lois Lucille Henson was born on January 3, 1939, to the late Columbia Eliza and Norval Young of Edna, TX.  At an early age she was baptized at Peabody Street Church of Christ. She later continued her faithful walk at the League City Church of Christ, where her life as a Christian was a great influence on those who knew her. She was affectionately known as “Nanny”. Born and raised in Edna, TX., she graduated from George W. Carver High School as valedictorian. Her secondary education included Texas College and Prairie View A&M University where she earned a Bachelor of Science and Master’s in Education. She met and married her husband of fifty-six years, Vernon Lee Henson Sr, at Texas College.  After college, she started her career as an Operating Room scrub technician at John Sealy Hospital. As a devoted Mom she chose a career in education for forty years. As an educator, she wore many hats which included Biology teacher, High School track coach, Special Education Coordinator and Department Head at Hitchcock High School and La Marque High School.  An extension of legacy will be carried out by many students who lives she has touched. 1. What a great example of a mother-in-law. Many daughters-in-law fail to enjoy the type of relationship shared between Mom and me. My mother-in-law genuinely loved me. For that I am truly grateful. So many wonderful memories will remain in my heart. I have never met a woman who loved football and basketball as much as she did. I will miss making spaghetti salad and watching her enjoy eating it. Holiday gatherings will have her spark of excitement missing. Talking to her on my drive from work made the distance shorter. Thanks, Mom, for all that you did for our family. We will not forget you. Rest now knowing that you have left a legacy of love.

  3. Dear family,
We are very sorry to learn of the loss of our dear Aunt Lois. Thank you for sharing her obituary. What a wonderful example she set as a wife who was loyal to her husband of 56 years. It was so nice to read about her life, particularly learning of her joy in teaching others. Certainly, her kindness and generosity will be remembered by God. We look forward to seeing her during the resurection.
