Lenni Sanders

Lenni Sanders passed on September 1st at the age of 86. She was a proud Texan, and a longtime resident of the Sugar Land area, but was always quick to remind strangers of her New York City roots.
Lenni was born in the Bronx on July 2, 1932, the child of Russian immigrants Mollie Sher and Jacob Goodman. Educated in Music at Hunter College, Lenni was an accomplished musician who played piano and sang throughout her life. Nourished by a longstanding creative impulse, Lenni wrote poetry, ran a writing club, authored biographies of Brookdale Senior Living’s residents and staged a number of her own theatrical productions.
Her professional pursuits included teaching music at a daycare, where she worked until her retirement. She also enjoyed Scrabble and finishing the New York Times crossword puzzle.
Lenni was predeceased by her husband Ronn. She is survived by her brother, Bernard Goodman and her 7 children Deborah Sanders, Eric Sanders, Jeff Sovern, Elizabeth Sovern, Douglas Sovern, Craig Sanders and Mark Sanders, her 4 daughters-in-law Darlene Sanders, Diane Sanders, Jeri Gilbert, and Sara Newmann, her son-in-law Ray Conley and her 15 grandchildren.
No public memorial service is planned at this time. The family requests donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

  1. Sorry to learn of Lenni’s passing. I was a friend of hers when we were growing up in The Bronx. I met her when we were teenagers and I remember when she married Mickey Sovern and kept their budget on a chalkboard. I am 87 years old and live in Florida. My condolences to her family.
