Kathleen Coatney

Kathleen Coatney, 75, passed peacefully at her home in Dickinson, Texas on January 27, 2022.

Born Odessa Kathleen Mack, she was one of thirteen children born to W.D. and Leah Mack of Bacliff, Texas.  The oldest of eight girls along with five brothers, Kathleen was born into the role of caretaker and leader.  Persistent and tenacious only begins to describe her lifestyle.

After graduating from Dickinson High School class of 1964, Kathleen marries and started her own family.  When her children were school age, she was able to fulfill her dream of getting a college education.

Kathleen graduated from Galveston College with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing in 1979. She used her education for a career that last over thirty-two years at Mainland Hospital nursing new mothers and their babies.

Kathleen was proceeded in death by her parents, her son Bobby and sister Susan.

Left behind to grieve her loss and cherish her memories are daughter: Kimberly Plummer; Son: Joseph Coatney and son/grandson: Christopher Coatney; brothers: Glen, David, Edward, Clendon and Preston; sisters: Dee, Donna, Adria, Lou Ann, Penny and Julie; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

One of Kathleen’s greatest joys was traveling with her family and friends. She was very proud to have visited over fourteen countries. Always up for an adventure, she kept an emergency suitcase packed so she would be prepared to hop on a plane, train or ship at a moments notice.

A visitation will be held at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson on Tuesday February 1, 2022 at 10:00 am with a funeral service starting at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Forest Park East.

  1. Kathleen was a good friend. She was a great nurse, I learned from her. She loved her family, and friends. How much more can be said about a wonderful person. I will miss her.

  3. I just saw this and hate I didn’t see it in time to come to the service. Kathleen was a mentor to me. I worked with her for several years and have great memories. My condolences sent you to the family.
