Katherine Elizabeth Galanski

Katherine Elizabeth Galanski, 89, of League City, Texas, formerly of Houston, Texas, passed away on February 1, 2020, in Nassau Bay, Texas.

She was born January 14, 1931, in San Antonio, Texas, daughter of Harry and Pearl Dunaway. Mrs. Galanski was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Houston for over 40 years.  Professionally, she served as an Executive Secretary, with her last employer being National Marine, where she retired in 1991 after 18 years of service.

She is preceded in death by her sisters – Dorothy Coy and Josephine Tankersley, and her brothers – Jack Dunaway and Patrick Dunaway.  She is survived by her husband Stanley Robert Galanski Sr. (65 years of marriage), and their three sons and spouses – Stanley Galanski Jr. and wife Susan, David Galanski and Gerardo De Leon, and Greg Galanski and wife Kathy; grandchildren and spouses – Chelsea Galanski, Adair Winget and husband James, Leainni Galanski, and Mason Galanski; and three great grandchildren.

She was an enduring person having survived tuberculosis as a young woman, and a mid-life, Near-Death Experience. Her love for the Lord permeated every aspect of her life – from her devotional presence in the Catholic Church to the many sacrifices she made for her family, to the absolute “kindness” she showed every person she encountered. Her currency was her smile.  She was the “foundation” of the Galanski Family, with an affection for life, in all its forms, that was very precious.

A service will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston, Texas 77056 on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 10:00 AM with the burial to follow at the Houston National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be sons: Stanley R. Galanski Jr., David Galanski, Greg Galanski; nephews Stanley A. Galanski and Tom Tankersley; and longtime family friend David Bergeron.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Pawsitive Play Program at Texas Children’s Hospital, online at www.texaschildrens.org/puppylove.

  11. Whenever I think of Kathy, I think of the word “sparkle.” I was so lucky to have her as a sister-in-law. She was a lovely person and kind to everyone. I loved her as did everyone who ever knew her. She will leave a big void in my heart.
