Julian Francis DeBaylo
passed away on December 26, 2014 at the age of 80 years in Seabrook, Texas. He was born on September 25, 1934 in Burgaw, North Carolina to Julian and Frances DeBaylo. He never met his father, for he passed away before his birth. Julian is survived by his wife Clara of 49 years, brothers Fred and Don Augustine with wife MaryLee, daughter Julianna, son Francis and wife Julie, and son James, grandchildren Alex, Jeremy, Brianna, Zachary, Sierra and Justin, and great grandchildren Ava and Kimber.
He grew up working on the family farm and playing football in Burgaw. After graduating high school he joined the army and was sent to Korea. Upon his return he went to school to become a welder and started working the shipyard in New Port News, Va. After leaving the shipyard, he moved the family around following work (Va. Tn. NC. and SC.) In 1976 he decided to make a big move to Texas and settled in Seabrook, working for Brown & Root at Mobay Chemical were he retired in 1996.
One of Julian’s favorite hobbies was watching and/or participating in youth sports. He became an Official Little League Umpire (un-paid) in the late 1960’s to the yearly 1990’s. He loved going to all the high school football games whether he had kids on the field or not. Then in 2006 he found another sport he loved, lacrosse. He quickly became part of the lacrosse family and worked himself up to “The Mayor” with his “Atta-Boy”.
Julian loved being outside, whether that was traveling in his travel trailer or doing projects with his hands. One of his favorite spots was a deer lease in the Texas Hill Country where every Thanksgiving was spent and where he constructed a cabin from the ground up. If he wasn’t in the woods, then he was at the bay, usually catching nothing, but wasn’t going to give up. He also loved spending time with people he loved, whether it be family, small group, or his lacrosse family.
He loved God and people. He was a very strong and yet a very sensitive man. To put is plainly he was kind, gentle, honest and simple man. He was a man of few words, but the words he did say counted. Just don’t take his Pepsi away.

What a beautiful obituary for our friend, Julian. Oh, that we all could claim such a rich, full life legacy! Always pleasant, friendly and eager to help–that was Julian. Once when I needed some tires and no idea how to choose what I needed, he came up to Discount Tire on Bay Area Blvd and helped me pick out exactly what I needed that was within my budget. It was a privilege to have shared friendship with Julian and Clara in our life group. He and my late husband, Larry, seemed to speak a similar quiet language. I know they are enjoying sports and hunting up there in heaven. And for his precious family, I am reminded of this scripture: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ~Isaiah 41:10
