Henry Larnce Helms

Henry Larnce Helms, known to most as H.L., of Kemah, Texas, went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at the age of 86. His wife, Ruby, of 66 years was by his side.

H.L. was born March 13, 1938, in Eudora, Arkansas, to Albert and Ruth Helms. He attended high school in New Caney, TX, where he met Ruby Lee Mitchell. It was a perfect match, and they were married shortly after graduating on June 21, 1958. He loved Ruby fiercely. He joined the Navy and spent four years serving our country and building a family with Ruby. They had four sons – James, Alvin, Robert, and Russell.

First and foremost, H.L. was a loyal servant to God. He dedicated his life to the Lord and his family. He served as a deacon for many years at New Hope Baptist Church. He began his career as a carpenter and later moved into home building. He was a respected construction manager for Wycoff Construction for over 20 years, where he was able to share his love of construction with those around him. Even in his final years, he was still drawing blueprints and deer blind plans, making sure they were perfect. Anyone who knew him, knows perfection was his goal. In his spare time, he loved to fish, hunt, and spend time with his family.

H.L. is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Ruth, his son, James Leroy Helms and siblings Inez, Ila Mae, Alberta, Wilbert, Amos, Clinton, Avis, Bernice, and James David.

He is survived by his wife Ruby, and many other loving family members including brother, Don, sister, Liz, children Alvin (Donna), Robert, and Russell (Melissa), ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two more on the way.

His work here on earth is complete and now he is receiving his rewards in Heaven.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on:

Friday, May 10, 2024 at 10 am at New Hope Baptist Church, 3610 FM 646 Rd., League City, TX 77573.

  2. Gods Blessings to all the family… Its been many years passed since I have seen Great Uncle HL…. I can’t even recall when the last visit was, but I know this, every time I saw him he was smiling happy to see you and if there was work to be done he was doing it… I do recall a time when our home had burnt and I remember being amazed at how he and his sons were up on that roof and wam bam before you knew it saw dust was flying lumber was flinging and before you knew it there was not any sign there was ever a fire. I know his given name now I never knew it I just knew HL…Henry Larnce Helms… All are in my prayers take care until we meet again.
