George Marion “Randy” Jinks
Surrounded by his family, George Marion “Randy” Jinks peacefully went to be with the Lord on June 22, 2026, at the age of 78.
Randy was born the first son of George Pearson Jinks and Jeanette Cooksey Jinks on September 21, 1947, in Conroe, Texas. When he was five, his family moved to Katy, where he graduated from Katy High School and excelled in athletics, lettering all four years in football, basketball and track. He won the State title in the pole vault his senior year, clearing 13 feet, and was inducted into the inaugural class of the Katy ISD Athletic Hall of Honor. It was also at Katy High School that he met the love of his life, Lauren Pederson, to whom he would be married for 57 years.
His athleticism allowed him to be the first in his family to attend college, on a full football scholarship to Rice University. After Rice, he joined Texas Commerce Bank, where he spent his entire 29-year career, rising to President of the Katy Freeway Branch and, after TCB was acquired Chase, Vice President for West Houston.
Randy and Lauren lived in Sharpstown until their only son, Brian, was about to start elementary school. They then moved back to Katy so Brian could attend Katy schools, and stayed until Brian graduated college. Randy spent countless hours practicing with Brian and coached every sports team he played on, then became a fixture at every single sporting event through high school.
He was active in the Katy Rotary Club and was on the boards of the West Houston Association and Katy Community Hospital.
Randy had a triple bypass at 49 and decided shortly thereafter to retire and spend his days traveling with Lauren. They sold their house, bought an RV, and toured the country, driving through all but one of the continental United States — they even drove it to Alaska.
The only thing that could get them to put down roots again in Texas was their grandsons, Barrett and Preston Jinks. “RoRo” absolutely loved spending time with his grandchildren — babysitting them weekly when they were young, attending every event, and taking them everywhere.
Though Brian was his only child, many of Brian’s friends looked to Randy as a father figure. He shared countless “firsts” with Brian and his friends, always taking as many people as would fit in the Suburban for the six-hour drive to the ranch, or finding places for everyone to sleep at the bayhouse. He loved Texas country music and went to many concerts at famous venues like Gruene Hall, Luckenbach, and John T. Floore’s Country Store, most of the time towing along Brian and his friends.
After they sold the RV, the travel bug never left them. Lauren and Randy went on to see the world together, traveling to over 50 countries as far as Australia, China, and Africa.
Randy never met a stranger. He made friends worldwide throughout their travels and established real, lifelong relationships wherever he went. He always had a smile and was quick with a joke. He will be dearly missed.
Randy is survived by his high school sweetheart, Lauren Pederson Jinks; his son, Brian Jinks and his wife, Stephanie; his “other son” Jim Bavouset and his family; his grandchildren, Barrett and Preston Jinks, and Alexandra and Charlie Vasut; his brother, Ricky David Jinks, along with his sons and grandchildren; Pederson brothers-in-law Mike (Marianne), Rodney (Sharon) and Chuck (Michele); numerous nieces and nephews; and the many other people who thought of him as family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jeanette and George Jinks, and by his in-laws, who were never viewed as in-laws, Eileen and Pete Pederson.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Delaney at South Shore and Magnolia Hospice Care for caring for Randy as one of their own.
Friends are cordially invited to attend a Celebration of Randy’s Life at Clear Lake United Methodist Church at one o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the ninth of July. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family in the church’s reception hall, located at 16335 El Camino Real, Houston, Texas 77062.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that any memorial contributions be made in Randy’s name to Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

We will miss you every day Rando! One of a kind and the best 2nd dad to me and many others. Big hugs to all the Jinkses and Pedersons. We will celebrate your memory everyday by living the way you taught us.
