Gary Taylor Garrison
Gary Taylor Garrison, born March 12, 1942 in Houston, Texas, peacefully passed from this life May 2nd, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Gary was a successful entrepreneur in numerous business adventures including Hi-Lo Auto Supply, The Detail Co. and Total Travel, and Western Advertising Co. Gary’s love of the outdoors had him hunting and fishing anytime and anywhere he could. He was a devoted member of the Houston Live Stock Show & Rodeo for more than half his life. He started as a volunteer for the Corral Club Committee, and through his lifelong commitment to HLSR rose up to Vice President. He was also a member of the Valley Lodge Trail Ride serving as trail boss for a term. Gary was proceeded in death by his parents and siblings.
Gary leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Carolyn; son Gary Garrison and wife Nicole; daughter Susan DeCuyper and husband Mike; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Family is holding private services.

Loved Gary .he was one of my maverick Mothers. Met him in late 59 H&H Music first Houston Branch store was in Bellaire on Spruce st. Next door to “ Charlie’s HiLo Auto Supply” he cut a hole in the Bathroom wall and watch me teaching guitar. He had stories to tell.

Jeanette, Vanessa, and I Robert Frost were so sorry to hear about Gary’s death. He was one of the earliest members of the Tejas vaqueros, Carolyn, as well as the Valley Lodge trail ride association. We have many fond memories of you and your family.

I met Gary when he came to work at Charlie’s Auto Supply. Can’t remember if it was before or after the name Hi-Lo showed up. I started doing business with Charlies Auto supply in 1960 when taking the Auto Mechanics course at Bellaire High School. It was like doing business with family, and when Gary came to work there he had the personality and knowledge that fit right in with the group. When I moved to Austin in 1966 I travelled back and forth to Houston several times a month or every week. I continued to do business at Hi-Lo in Bellaire until Charlie retired and Gary left there and what year I have no clue. Gary was one year younger than me and a few months ago I have gotten to the point of looking up a lot of nice folks I’ve known in this life and a week or so ago I purchased an old item that had a Hi-Lo logo on it. I know Charlie passed away decades ago and I’m sorry, very sorry, that I didn’t get a chance to see Gary or talk to him and missed by a year. Every time I think of Charlie’s, Hi-Lo and those days, Gary’s name is always there. Another one that was there was Lynn Walker. Life was so much simpler then. No matter how long the time might be between visits, Gary and I could always pick up where we had previously left off. I can only say that if anyone ever deserved success in life, Gary was one. It never occurred to me that people I met back then, like Gary and others, that they would still be vividly on, and in, my mind 50-60 years later. His family was, I’m sure, his inspiration and I’m sure they felt the same way about him. I’m honored to have known the man. God Bless his family.
