Edwin Walter LaVigne, Jr.

Edwin Walter LaVigne, Jr., 74, a resident of Friendswood, TX, formerly of Richmond, TX, passed away on July 19, 2021, in Houston, TX.  Ed was born August 6, 1946, in Coral Gables FL, grew up in a military family in multiple locations in the US and Europe, and graduated in 1968 from the University of Notre Dame.  An electrical engineer, he worked on several large petrochemical facilities around the globe, retiring from Worley Parsons Engineering after 13 years.  He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite and Edwin “Duffy” LaVigne of Port Sulphur Louisiana.

Ed is survived by his wife of 18 years, Laura LaVigne; daughters Jennifer and Heather LaVigne, husband Mike; Ellen Register, husband Chris; son Edwin “Trey” LaVigne, III, wife Katherine; grandchildren: Eleanor Bodwin, husband Travonte; Jonah LaVigne; Linus Perry; Juliette Dumont; Ella, Weston and Jackson Register; great-grandchildren Gordon and Nora Bodwin; sisters Michelle Lame and Nancy Finucan, husband Jack.

Ed was a member of the Sorin Society of the ND Alumni Association.  He enjoyed traveling to South Bend for tailgating and football games with friends and family.

He was a musician most of his life, playing bass guitar in church choirs, rock and country bands.  One of his favorite gigs was playing at the yearly HLSR BBQ cook-off.

Ed and Laura enjoyed traveling to Europe and most recently to Japan for work and pleasure.  But most of all, he looked forward to weekend BBQs and pool parties with family and friends.

There will be a memorial service at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like for donations to be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.

  1. I’m so sad to see this post. Loved Ed to pieces. In fact I thought I had seen him but it wasn’t him. But that sure made me think about him and the great times we had together in the St. Justin Choir. God bless and may his soul rest in peace.

    We are so sorry to hear of Ed passing away. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grand father. His family meant so much to him. He is now in peace and in the glorious presence of our Lord Jesus.

  10. I am so sorry to learn of Ed’s passing Laura. The times we had playing in the Castelles in our teens, driving home from gigs at 3AM via Mario’s pizza, then reuniting after 40 years, and jamming in Livorno. The wonderful, accomplished person I knew, ahead of his time. Thoughts are with you.
