Edward Frank Sustrick, Jr.

Ed Sustrick was born May 16, 1954, in Orlando, Florida.  He was the 2nd child of Louise and Ed Sustrick, Sr., a Lt. Colonel in the U. S. Air Force.  He grew up in Yuba City, CA., attending Holy Angels Elementary School, part of St. Isidore’s Catholic Church.

He moved to Texas in the early 1990’s where he met and married his wife Ann.  They raised a lovely family in League City, TX.

Ed and Ann chose True Cross Catholic School to educate their daughters Sarah and Clare.  In doing so they became part of the Shrine of the True Cross parish.

Ed was very active in school and parish life including school parent volunteer; catechist for junior high and high school youth; member of the ACTS community; member of the Knights of Columbus Father Roach Council 3217 and the Matthew H. Wilson Assembly 1988.

Ed loved working with children. In his early 50’s he went back to school and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences with 8-12 Life Science. During these years of going to school, he worked part-time driving a school bus. He felt it was good training for developing classroom management skills.

As a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3217, he took on the project of re-establishing the Columbia Squires whose purpose was to develop the youth of the KCs to become future Knights.

Ed was a wonderful husband to Ann and father to Sarah and Clare.  He was a natural at fatherhood. They shared many adventures together all the while teaching them about God, life and how to take care of themselves.

He shared these lessons with his daughters through his gift of storytelling.  His childhood, as a part of a military family, was full of adventures, as was his life as a young man before he moved to Texas.

Finally, Ed’s best examples of being a role model of husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend came during his 2-year battle with cancer. His courage and strength in the face of a terminal disease gave witness to the tremendous faith and trust he had in our Lord Jesus Christ.

He took his last breath at home in front of his family on his 64th birthday at 3 pm in the afternoon. He had received a final anointing and the Apostolic Pardon earlier that morning.

“Well done good and faithful servant.”

A visitation in his honor will be held 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Wednesday, May 23, 2018, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm, at Crowder Funeral Home, Dickinson, TX.  Mass will be celebrated 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 24, 2018, Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church, Dickinson, with interment following at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Dickinson.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to True Cross Catholic School or the American Cancer Society.

  4. Very saddened to read today that my friend Edward from Holy Angels in Yuba City has left us. I last saw Ed in 1963 during our 4th grade class with Sister John Francis as instructor. I will always remember him as diligent, friendly, hard working, loyal. God bless his lovely family….
