Donald L. Purdy, Sr

Donald L. Purdy, Sr., 79, born November 24, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away, November 15, 2018 in his home in Houston, Texas.  A resident of Clear Lake City, a suburb of Houston, for more than 45 years, Purdy is a graduate of Northwestern Louisiana State University, and retired from I.B.M. after more than 25 years of service.  An avid sports enthusiast, Purdy was a professional football official (referee) for more than 35 years, and was most recently honored by the Texas Association of Sports Officials with a life membership for his achievements where he also served as an instructor.  He also served as on the T.I.F.I. Board of Directors as well as coached T.I.F.I. youth football and NASA Area Little League Baseball for several years and is a former president of Clear Lake City Elementary P.T.A. He is survived by his children, Donna Purdy Tinoco of DeLand, Florida, Donald L. Purdy, Jr. of Pottsboro, Texas and David L. Purdy of Roswell, Georgia. His grandchildren, Audrey E. Anderson and Eric T. Anderson of Houston, Texas, Andrew D. Purdy of San Antonio, Texas and Colleen and Erin Purdy of Roswell, Georgia.  He is also survived by his brother John Purdy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and many more nieces and nephews also in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area.  He was proceeded in death by his mother and father Corrine Purdy and John F. Purdy, and his sister Edith ‘Sissy’ Barras all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He will be buried in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his father mother and sister in their family plot.

  2. Known Don since high school in Philadelphia. Don was a great man, pretty darn good athlete and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. I know he’s been suffering for years and now he is at peace.

  3. I did not know of Don’s passing. My most profound condolences to his family and apology for not getting word of his passing! I’d like to have been one of his football friends there to celebrate his life! I officiated football with Don many times, filled in for him as referee on occasions when his health begin to decline, and had many spirited and enlightening rules discussions with him. He was a gentleman and loved football as do few others. I was blessed for having crossed paths with him!
